Scorched honey?

Is it possible to scorch honey in the same way you can scorch LME by adding it during the boil? I recently made a blonde ale with my father and he added the honey right into the boiling pot before I could stop him. I noticed that the sample we took for a gravity reading seemed to have a distinct roasted/burned flavor and wondered if this could be the cause.
 
I didn't think to look very close, but I don't remember anything particularly significant. There may be a spot or two though.
 
Any sugar can be scorched. There is even a style of mead that uses burnt honey. That link has a video from one of the members here making the "burnt mead."
