i found this recipe in the brewmaster's bible... i changed the yeast and guessed on the hops cause the brewer only uses big handfulls of hops.

15 lbs munich malt
2 oz hallertau full boil
1 oz hallertau @ 30
1 oz hallertau @ 15

white labs german/kolsh ale yeast slurry.

should be malty and hoppy

og 1.072
40 ibu's

aiming to let it ferment down to 1.020 or so for 6.5 abv

the grain and hop bill is too expensive... almost thirty bucks :D

i've changed it to

10 lbs pale malt
5 lbs munich malt

3 oz hallertau whole hops evenly at 75 min, 45 min and 15 min

got a huge yeast starter ready for sunday :)

A grain bill of 15lb for is what you need for a pretty strong Bock beer (given an efficiency of 70%). You should be able to cut down on the amount of malt and get to about 12lb.

But yes, imported malt from Germany will be more expensive. I think it's worth it. I'll soon be buying 55lb bags of Weyermann Pilsner and Munic II malt. My LHBS sells them for $45 each, if I remember correctly.
