Oh, no. The amount of rye is, if anything, a little on the low side for me. I love rye beers. I usually use rye malt over flakes though. I think the flavor is better with malt but you do have to crush it fine and should use a handful of rice hulls to prevent stuck sparges. I usually go 19-20% rye malt.

The 777 used two pounds of flaked rye- and it was perfect. I think you'll be fine with that much rye (but again, I like rye, too!)

I think you've got a very tasty beer there! I particularly like the combo of simcoe and cascade hops.

Try throwing in about 1/2 oz of Simcoe in as First Wort Hops, you will be amazed at the flavors and aromas you will get....

Thanks for all the advice. I planned on using flaked rye instead of malted because I heard it was easier. If my LHBS has malted, is that better for flavor? (i am a little worried about the crush since im sure they will just crush all the grains the same).

This turned out Excellent. my best brew yet. I will be adding it to the database.

I'm guessing the flaked rye worked well? How much did you end up using? I am planning a Rye1.5 and just posted some Rye questions, oops!!

I used 1.5 pounds (14.3%). I was afraid this would be a little low, but it was right about where i wanted it. Had no problems in the mash either.
