I need some help determining the correct amount of hops for an Altbier. The recipe is from Kaiser (found it in the recipe area) and it describes the following:

"German Spalter Hops to get to 27 IBU (Tinseth) at a 60 min boil time. Substitution with German Magnum possible, though the bitterness will not be as smooth."

We're shooting for 25 gallons after the boil.

Brewing this weekend. I need to order the hops today.

Thanks in advance,

Art

(I guess this would be a good excuse to buy some brewing software.)

I made 5 gallons of this beer around Christmas time- it was good!

I used 3 ounces of Spalt at 60 minutes. Mine was 2.6 AAUs, though. So, I don't know if all Spalt hops are that low, but you can guestimate from that, I guess.
