Trying to brew my own version of this recipe wondering why one of the 60 min additions says next to it (First wort Hop)? Please help explain. Thanks!
it don't make sense to me either, they want you to add 1 oz and 1/2 oz of the same hop at the same time?
I see now, read the whole recipe, he explains it.
he adds that half oz before the boil, right after the steep. I don't see as it will make much difference really.
First wort hopping is when the hops are added to the first runnings of the wort, and not waiting until all of the wort is added to the kettle and brought to a boil first, like 60 minute hops are.
FWH means that the hops "steep" in the hot first runnings as the mash is drained and the sparge is begun. Then, after all the wort is in the kettle, the wort is brought to a boil. So sometimes the FWH are in the kettle for 45 minutes to an hour before the boil starts.
This is purported to give a smoother hops bitterness and more hops flavor to the final beer.

But why does the first wort hop addition also say 60 min?
because the timer starts when the boil starts, since this is before the boil it is written 60 minutes (probably the way it had to be written for the recipe software he used)
