How many Co2 tanks ya got?

Two. One for the kegerator and a one smaller paintball based tank system. I use the paintball setup for purging carboys and kegs and as an emergency backup when the big one runs out. Not the most efficient way of doing things, but I like the small size and portability since it is easy to...

    American Standard vs Metric

Unit conversions are the only thing I use Siri for, she's quick with that.

    American Standard vs Metric

I'm all over the place with what I use. Grain- Pounds Hops- grams water adjustment- grams Water- gallons temp- Fahrenheit I like to use milligrams for hops and water adjustments for accuracy, same reason I use Fahrenheit for temp.

10 gallon batch in 10 gallon kettle.

Thanks for the suggestions. Right now I'm learning towards a combination of your ideas. Collect 8.5 gallons in my 10 gallon kettle and the remaining 3.5 gallons in my second kettle, bring both to a boil then add wort from the smaller kettle as the larger one boils off. If I do it right, I...

10 gallon batch in 10 gallon kettle.

That's a great idea, my only concern would be if 15 min is long enough to drive off DMS? Then again, I could just boil it for 90 min too, right? Maybe throw a very small dose of hops in there. Fermcap- I always have it handy :) Thanks!

10 gallon batch in 10 gallon kettle.

Looking for a good process and tips as to the best way to go about doing this. I have a 4.5% pale ale recipe that I'd like to do 10 gallons of, I have the ability to mash the grain since there is only 18lbs in a 10 gallon recipe, but only have a 10 gallon boil pot. My plan was to double...

MoreBeer Firestone Walker Pale 31 kit

I'll be brewing this today. Just a note for anyone who gets this kit, either watch the perfect pale ale DVD or listen to the CYBI episode first. The instruction sheet morebeer sends with it are severely lacking in important details needed to make this beer. Some notes I took- Grain/Grist ratio...

    Having Trouble Hitting Temps

I've noticed that the water under the element doesn't heat unless its boiling. I brought some water to 190 using my element and then opened the valve and the first 1/2 gallon was pretty cool to the touch. I would skip the 20 minute stabilizing step and try stirring while you heat the water...

So, am I the only "No TV" weirdo here?

As a matter of fact, I do get my internet from them too. It does seem to be their basic package. (still nothing worth paying for) This must be what's going on. Thanks!

So, am I the only "No TV" weirdo here?

Maybe someone can elaborate as to why this works but after I had my cable shut off I simply screwed the coax back in and ended up with all of the major networks in HD (NBC,CBS,ABC and Fox). Not sure if all the coax in the house is acting like an antenna or what, but it works and I'm not complaining.

So, am I the only "No TV" weirdo here?

I haven't given up on it completely, but I finally shut the cable off and got netflix instead. IMO there was nothing on network TV worth paying for, I was shelling out $90 per month and maybe watching 2 hours a week. I like to have a few over the air stations to watch football and netflix is...

    Boom Goes the Ale Pail

My first batch did this as well, no issues at all. Since then I have started using better bottles with a Better Bottle Big Blow Closure for every batch, especially ones with lots of hops. Before this setup I was using a smaller diameter tube and still had some explosions. This setup uses 3/4"...

    Gelatin-Beer won't clear

When I say I wait for the wort to be clear, I mean before the vorlauf, but now that you mention it, it does seem like my beers that rest at below 150 are the ones that struggle with clearing...Hmmm. I usually stir the mash a few times during the rest as I take PH readings. That along with the...

    Gelatin-Beer won't clear

To be honest, I've never checked for full conversion with iodine. I just give it an hour to make sure the mash is clear before vorlaufing. My efficiency is 81% on every batch. I am interested in where you are going with this question. I did an hour rest at 149 then vorlaufed for 15min or so.

    Gelatin-Beer won't clear

BrewingGunner- WLP 002 with a 2L starter Warthaug- I have a 3 vessel all grain system with false bottom, I vorlauf the wort and sparge water until clear (batch sparging) before adding it to the kettle. This batch sits in the fermenter for roughly 17 days before kegging since it has a double dry...

    Gelatin-Beer won't clear

Nope, I'm pretty sure it's not chill haze. I use a Jamil style whirlpool chiller to knock the temps down pretty quickly and get a good cold break. Although this does raise another question I have thought about-I whirlpool my 0 min additions on hoppy beers for 10-20 minutes before turning the...

    Gelatin-Beer won't clear

Just double checking my process here. I have fined a few batches with gelatin in the keg but for some reason I'm having mixed results and I have a Union Jack clone that just won't drop clear. I realize that time will most likely drop the beer clear, but it seems most who use gelatin have...

    Vendor Giveaways -- Bad Juju

Oh look, somebody wants something for free while others pay for it. Where have I heard this before? I think the giveaways are a great way to motivate people to join the site. If you have the time and money to brew, you have the money to join. I plan to get a premium membership soon for the...

Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

I have this freezer and it's not the bottom screw as pictured. Adjust the screw on top (after removing the tape) by turning it clockwise. This way you don't have to worry about loosening the screw too much and having it come out of the spring.

    Seriously???

It's Boulder...and it's true. I spend a ton of time there and this doesn't surprise me at all.
