    Saflager 34/70

Reviving this thread because I stumbled upon it in a mad dash to see how much trouble I’m in. First time brewing a German Lager and using 34/70. All-grain, 5 gallon batch with a low-ish OG of 1.036. Cooled wort to 50F and pitched two packets of 34/70, not rehydrated and at room temperature...

Any ideas for upgrading my setup?

Right now I’m working with a 12 gallon HLT cooler w/ball valve, a 12 gallon MT cooler w/ball valve, a 10 gallon Blichmann G1 BK, and a Blichmann propane burner on 24” leg extensions. I’m looking to incorporate a pump into the process so that I can get all three vessels roughly at the same height...

First brewday in over 18 months and it was...an adventure

Moved from just outside Sacramento (Woodland) to just outside of a Columbus, OH (Granville). I always sort of brewed in spurts back in CA because of how hot it would get outside (way too many 100*+ days in the summer) and after this past Saturday where my immersion chiller was actually working...

First brewday in over 18 months and it was...an adventure

Okay, yes, should have clarified that it was 100% a clog and not a true stuck situation, but I panicked at about the same relative amount regardless. My false bottom must have lifted during stirring the mash early on and grains got all up in the tubing and valve, a true clog if ever there was...

First brewday in over 18 months and it was...an adventure

I moved cross county over a year ago and this past Saturday I finally got myself in a position to start brewing again. All-Grain 6 gallon batch of Northern Brewer's The Plinian Legacy (because I guess doing something more simple after such a long break was a smart idea, and having just relocated...

HAPPY St. Patrick's Day INKBIRD Giveaway

St. Patty's Day also happens to be my birthday, so here's to hoping for a little luck of the Irish on my b-day!

First time 3-vessel AG brew, looking for feedback

Hey all, I've been a BIAB brewer for a while now and after many many batches of always coming well under the OG, I finally upgraded to a 3 vessel setup with two converted coolers (the Northern Brewer Deluxe AG kit) to pair with my 10-gallon Blichman kettle. Did my first brew yesterday and was...

    Help w/ first nitro

I’m having trouble with my first Nitro beer, but can’t pinpoint what exactly the issue is. Right now it is pouring from my stout faucet with no problems, has that great cascading effect in the glass and producing a frothy head, but the head very quickly dissipates. Within minutes there is...

    Candi sugar

Tried searching, but couldn't find a clear answer to my admittedly dumb question: Brewing a dubbel tomorrow, first time brewing a Belgian of any sort, and wanted to use candi sugar as opposed to the cane sugar the recipe calls for. I bought a 1lb bag of Brewer's Best Dark Candi Sugar (rock...

    Help! Broken regulator.

That's the plan then. Weird how it just stopped working, i thought it was of a little better quality than to just go all spin-o-rama on me, but allen wrench from here on out then. Thanks!

    Help! Broken regulator.

No leaking. It actually just popped off as I was fiddling and doesn't appear to be worn at all, but it's definitely not catching when it's on. I can use an Allen wrench without a problem near as I can tell, unless someone can tell me a good reason not to.

    Help! Broken regulator.

The red knob on this dual gauge regulator is just spinning freely when I try to turn it (like a stripped screw head) and not sure what my next move is. It's the cheapest part of the regulator, so I'd hate to have to buy a brand new one because of it, but didn't want to try and pry it off for...

Force Carbonation with Kegerator at 20 PSI?

Just to clarify, your preferred method goes something like this: rack beer to sanitized keg, hook up CO2 to purge out oxygen and then disconnect CO2, put keg in freezer/fridge to make it cold, once cold hook up CO2 at 30PSI for 24 hours, then after that purge it all out of the keg and re-set at...

New to kegging, anything I should know

Awesome input everyone, much appreciated. Those carbonation charts look pretty useful, I just wish they could incorporate how much time to keep the keg at a set temp and PSI. Anyway, really appreciate all your tips.

New to kegging, anything I should know

Just got kegging equipment as a gift from the SWMBO and am excited to say goodbye to bottling! I've been doing my best to read up on the process on the forums and watch stuff on YouTube. Is there any advice that you wish someone had told you about kegging before you started that you found out...

    A little too calm

My past 5 batches or so, I've noticed a real lack of krausen during fermentation. A real lack meaning only a 1/4" ring or so and many of the beers seem to be stopping at a FG higher than I feel they should be. I do BIAB 5 gallon batches and ferment in a chest freezer with a temp control that...

    Newb needs help

Even scaled down, not sure you have enough raw ingredients for a small batch with only 3 lbs of 2 row. First thing though, check the date of the yeast and see how old it is. Next, what kind of brewing are you hoping to do? I'm assuming extract brewing, so you would need to have either Dried or...

    Beginner's dilemma (West Lafayette, IN)

Welcome! That excitement is only going to keep growing, so get ready to feel obsessive. Midwest Supplies has pretty solid standard kits and if money is an issue buying the cheapest starter kit is a fine way to go. You'll get all the things you need to make beer and it will give you a chance to...

Infections and Other Issues New Brewers Worry About

I'm just super excited that you have a Milk & Cheese avatar! I am a fellow comics & beer advocate. Anyway, that was a good read and something that newer brewers all need to see before immediately freaking out.
