    waxing beer bottle caps?

Wow! I have never thought to do this! I've got a Pumpkin Ale and a Winter Spice Ale that will be bottle in a week, totally going to do this.

    waxing beer bottle caps?

So I ordered a huge box of crayons for Dick Blick arts supplies. It was a box of 800 crayons, 100 each of 8 basic colors. I will admit this was overkill, and I now have more crayons than I'll ever need (especially since I re-use the caps). In terms of glue sticks, I keep adding them until the...

Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

Yeah, an 8 inch collar gives you a perfect fit for ball lock kegs on the Frigidaire 8.8cf. Not a lot of wiggle room, but the top shuts just fine.

Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

Hey ya'll. Put my keezer together with a Frigidaire 8.8 Cu. Ft. Chest Freezer (Color: White) Item #: 90724 Model #: LFFC09M5HW from Lowe's. There wasn't too much info out there about this freezer (many people refer to it at a 9 cu. ft.), but I was pretty sure from poking around on HBT...

Corny Kegs on eBay (Not mine)

Purchased a pallet load of ball locks from Fred at http://www.mceverdistrib.com/ a couple of weeks ago. Shipped super fast (freight obviously) and ended up being less than $30 a piece including shipping. Many even came pressure tested, and all are in great shape. If you're looking to do a group...

    Tank depot Inductor tanks?

Rural King (www.ruralking.com) has these tanks for $61.99 and has free shipping right now. Just ordered my first one!

    Inductor Tank Conical Fermentor Build

I know this has been done before, but I'm finally undertaking my cheap and easy conical fermentor build. Pretty excited. Been keeping my eyes peeled on craigslist for a cheap refrigerator that I can stick this puppy into so that I can use it to lager. Just ordered a 15 gallon tank from Rural...

    waxing beer bottle caps?

Also, because I want to do minimal work, I leave the old wax on the bottles unless it peels off easily. This leads to some interesting color combinations.

    waxing beer bottle caps?

I've been waxing the tops of my beers for the last 6 batches now. I wouldn't say that it neccesarily serves any functional purpose (though it certainly makes sure there is a great seal). I do it for several reasons. 1 - I haven't gotten around to making labels for my beers, because I...

What I did for beer today

Bottled 5 gallons of milk stout, capped them with wax, and then watched the first season of Californication. Life win.

    Good to see NC representing.

    Newbie from North Carolina

Congrats on getting to the bottling stage. I'm sure the beer will turn out just fine. After 12 brews I haven't had one that has been undrinkable (though some are certainly better than others).

    Hello to all from NC

Another Durhamite here, and a relative newbie. Started out brewing a couple of months ago and just did my first all grain batch on Sunday!

Keggle setup - My first all grain brewday!

And finally, the fruits of my labor. When I woke up this morning it was bubbling like a champ. Looking forward to refining my brew setup.

Keggle setup - My first all grain brewday!

Made an IPA, here's the hops ready to go. I used Columbus, Cascade, and Ahtanum.

Keggle setup - My first all grain brewday!

Here's half the grain bill. OMG did it smell amazing. Decided to really go for it and do a ten gallon batch, so I had two buckets full. Felt good to walk into my local homebrew store and not be purchasing a huge growler full of extract.

Keggle setup - My first all grain brewday!

Fittings for the keggle. I used a cheap Harbor Freight bit and a dinky cordless drill. Took a little bit of patience, but got all four holes drilled out without any issues. The fittings are from http://www.brewhardware.com/ and the camlocks are from http://www.bargainfittings.com/. Both sites...

Keggle setup - My first all grain brewday!

Oh snap, yeah I was worried about the wooden table. I ended up going to the hardware store and putting bricks under the burner. The heat all goes up though, but better safe than sorry!

Keggle setup - My first all grain brewday!

Used some ducting to make windscreens for my SQ14 turkey fryers. Made a HUGE difference, only took 30 minutes to get my tap water to 160 degrees.
