    Red Boss IIPA

Oh boy this is one delicious beer. I took a bit for a final hydrometer reading before putting it into a keg...My wife and I fought over this sample lol. Cheers!

109 degrees outside... about to brew a 10 gallons batch.

I imagine it would take a while to get the temp down enough to pitch...not to mention the toll the heat would take on you. On the otherhand, I lived in Chicago for many years. I remember getting my plate chiller set up and have the line freeze so I could not cool my wort...also hands and (eh...

More alcamahol means more drunk. Miller Fortune...more "craft" from bmc

Disclaimer- completely my opinion with no real fact basis. I am agnostic about the whole BMC marketing ploys. I mean if they are trying to differentiate their brand to a targeted audience...go for it. I guess my point is that we are not their target audience and that is the bigger problem...

    What do I brew next?

So made the most of my brewcation. I made lederhosen festooned with a kilt..."Dopplescott," the Double Deception stout and the recommended ESB. Thanks again everyone. Once I free up a carboy or two, I will likely do a SMaSH something.

How much grain do you have in stock?

About 70lbs with half being base grains. A few pounds of hops. Generally, I buy the base grain in bulk and then buy extra hops, specialty grains when I complete a recipe. Over time I develop a good library to brew from. I find that helps when I get the bug to brew and don't have to go the...

    I'm using unfamiliar hops

Love those two hops. Use both for bittering and dry hopping purposes. That being said, some folks don't care for the tropical/grapefruit thing but I do in a big way. On the way to the keggerator now :D

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

I just finished up brewing this a few minutes ago. I say a version because I made a couple substitutions- 1. Used maris otter base malt 2. Split the chocolate malt to 2/3 regular chocolate and 1/3 pale chocolate malt 3. Galena hops for bittering 4. Pitched 1056 Also, my efficiency...

    What do I brew next?

Love the name Doppelscot! I laughed so loud my wife came in to ask what was so funny....heading off to change the name in beersmith. I keep thinking - I might have to add a 3rd beer to the brewcation next week. ESB is where I am headed right now. The 2 big beers are planned to...

    What do I brew next?

Votes for what 2 beers I brew next. I have an APA on draft, a wheat on deck and a red IIPA about 2 weeks away from being on deck. I can ferment at 68,69 at the moment...I plan to get a lager cooler in next 2 months but ales for now. I sold my old house and gave my lager cooler to a...

    Question on using cherries

I am working on a recipe for a chocolate/cherry porter for the holidays. One thing I have done successfully in mead making many times is to layer my cherry flavor by- 1. Using dried montmorency cherries (the kind without preservatives)...I believe they are available at trader joes if you...

    Red Boss IIPA

Hi All, I have a standard APA and wheat on tap. I wanted something fun/big and different. I took a recipe that I brew every year (thanks to a friend's help) with good results and made some changes. This year I took out the crystal and added a small dose of special b/victory. It is a...

    Red IIPA

Hi All, I have been brewing back full swing...A brew a week since I moved into my new house. I should have my Kegs fully loaded soon :mug: I had a standard west coast pale ale and a summer wheat brewed and wanted something very different as a third option on tap. I brew a version of this...

    Grain getting into kettle....

Here is what I have been doing for years....learned it from a guy that has been brewing even longer than me. I take one of these buffing pads (look similar to picture below) ...they are like thicker versions of scotts scrubbers and make great filters. I cut them to smaller circles so they...

    Anniversary Mead

I am not sure if it is okay to mention another forum bot Oskaar and company at gotmead.com is a great resource for helping you work through a special recipe. I have used that site for years to tweak recipes and learn. If you just want a great recipe- I made the following at the request of a...

    Oldest mead You have tasted?

I use the term mead loosely since I used fruit and a rhizome. I had cracked my last bottle of one of my first meads. It was 14 years old and am not even sure I recall the recipe. I know I used Rasberry Puree, Ginger, Orange Blossom Honey and it was a sparkling mead. I shared it with a...
