    Too long in secondary?

Hey all. I just got back from vacation and have a beer in secondary, it's been there for about 3-4 weeks. Looks fine, no funk in it or anything. Is this OK, just bottle as usuall or anything I need to know?

    kits vs ingrediants?

OK, I have used three different kits, and all go like this.....boil up 1 1/2 gal water, add contents of can with 3lbs dry malt (powder) and boil for 15min, then add to pre-chilled water in carboy, add more chilled water to 5 gal, then let cool to 76 degrees, and then add yeast to warm water, let...

Hey all. Im on my third batch right now, all looks good with all the batches, but have not had a finall product yet as the first batch has another week in bottles before I try it. But.....went to the brew store today and the guy was saying "you ready to brew your own from ingrediants?" OK...

    First batch bottled questions

It was a 5gal batch, I was a tad on the light side of it though, wanted to leave room for whatever. Normal size 12oz bottles, I wasted allot getting my siphon started, didn't want to mix in any water or slop when transferring from one step to the next, plus my siphon skills suck (pun or no...

    First batch bottled questions

Hey all. Brewed up a Coopers wheat beer kit, put it into primary, and was done fermenting in 3 days. Transfered to secondary, and the beer cleared right up to a nice golden color. Upon asking questions here, I was pointed in the direction that wheat beers are supposed to be cloudy and it was...

    how long to age?

I think I'm gonna bottle the wheat from what I have been reading. For the stout, I put it in primary, let it settle down with no bubling in the airlock, and transfered into secondary, where it sits right now, going on 4 days, its a crisp, clean looking beer, smells wonderfull and tastes good as...

    Different charachteristics?

I tasted it, and it tasted like a flat, stale beer, of course, it's room temp and not carbonated, so I guess I could expect that. Right now, the top 1in is getting really clear, just a golden amber color, and later, it cleared to 2in.....so it looks like everything is settling down to the...

    how long to age?

One is a coopers wheat beer can kit, and the other is a dark stout, forget the name, but also a can beer kit. I'm starting out with kits to get the general idea, equipment, cleaning, so on.

    how long to age?

I have two batches in secondary to clear up some. I read on here about folks leaving beer to sit more months sometimes. Is there a time-frame for aging for certain brews or is it a personal preference? Or is it like scotch or something, more age=better?

    Different charachteristics?

Hey all, new to brewing, and on my second batch (coopers wheat beer from a kit) it's super cloudy and has a more sour smell to it. It smells like that last 1/4 in of beer sitting in the bottom of a can on a hot day outside?? My first batch, a dark brew, smells and tastes good, but this is only...

Yea, I always thought Corpus was the big town of nothing, but your shooting yourself in the foot not going fishing there. 10 min and 10$ and you can be haulin in some nice catches. Anywho.....I dropped my damn thermometer in my carboy....guess it'll be OK there, not like it's under allot of...

    Nothing is happening???

I'm a total new guy to breweing, but if it helps, my first batch was like that. I came home from work expecting some magical creation, but nothing. Then, I was awoken in the night with bubling and gurgling, kinda like the night before christmas only with beer. But when mine took, it went off...

    Wheat Beer Sediment?

Hey all, second batch, and after I poured my boiled brew into the chilled water in the carboy, and added more cold water to make 5 gal, shortly I notice a heavy deposit on the bottom of the carboy? I didn't notice this with my first batch, but it was a dark stout. This brew is simply a...

    New to breweing

Thanks for the warm welcome and the advice/help. I was worried that it was over-fermenting or something. I need to pick up some lierature on home brewing so I can understand what is being talked about. I'm a big fan of beer, anything cold works for me, or sometimes chilled, and free is nice...

    New to breweing

Hello all. New to breweing and found this forum, looks pretty neat. I had been thinking of it for a while and finally went to my local shop and got the basic starter kit with a few add-ons. He suggested I start by using a can of mix to get the idea first so thats what I did. I purchased a...
