Still half way under a rock

My wife and I went to the grocery this past weekend and had an interesting conversation with the cashier. We were having the usually small talk when she noticed we weren't buying any beer and the conversation was as follows: Cashier "I think you two are the first I have come through and not...

    High OG and botteling

I brewed a beer that had an OG of 1.100 and a FG of 1.030 for a calculated ABV of 9.3%. The yeast I used was Windsor and was wondering if I should add another pack of yeast when I bottle because of the yeast working so hard during primary? Thanks for the help.

    Weird changing pressure on regulator

This is the first time I have kegged my beer. After putting gas lines on my kegs I turned the pressure up to 10 psi. Checked the gauge ab 2 hours later and gauge reads 20 psi. I unhook the gas line, release pressure from kegs, set regulator back at 0 and reconnect and turn up the regulator to...

    Avoiding bees while brewing

I have been sitting and thinking about this for quite a while. Last September when I was brewing (I brew outside and Live in Montana) a number of bees showed up during the boil because of the scent of sugars in the steam. I cannot think of any way to not have the bees show during a brew day...

    Temp Control for keezer

I am going to be building a keezer and I was wondering which temp controller I should use. I am looking at the Johnson Controls digital A419 or the Johnson Controls analog temp controller. Is there any reason to spend the extra money on the digital controller?

    Lactose fermentation and lactobacillus

I was pondering the idea of making a sweet/milk stout but doing a little twist in the end, make it sour. I have made a milk stout before and I know that yeast will not digest lactose. I know that brettanomyces will digest lactose. My question is this if I add lactobacillus when the beer is...

    I think I made a big oops

Today I went to the brew shop and bought what I thought was priming sugar. I went through my whole bottling procedure. When I was cleaning up I saw the package said matlodextrin. Will my beer carbonate or am I out of luck?

    Nor Cal Yeast Beast

I have been looking into getting a yeast starter set up. I was on the NorCal Brewing Solutions website and saw the Yeast Beast. I was wondering if this product works and if it is as effective as other yeast starter set ups because: 1. It uses a mason jar not an erlenmeyer flask. 2. There is...

SS false bottom or SS braid

I am looking into building myself a mash tun so that I can start all grain brewing. I am wondering if buying a false bottom would do a better job than using the SS braid method. Has any one on here had experience with both?

    New brewer in Montana

I brewed my first beer 2 weeks ago and moved it into secondary fermentation today. When all is done it should be a chocolate milk stout.
