Recipe suggestions for Mild Ale Malt

Hi all I purchased the wrong grain the other day (Mild Ale Malt) and also have a few leftover specialty malts from the last weekend's brewing, plus various hops in the freezer. I was hoping to put them to use in a beer. (Alternatively I could just soak the grains in fish oil and use them...

Lager using 5kg of the same grain

Hi all My LHBS has good deals on 5kg bags of crushed malted grain. Either NZ Pilsner, UK pale ale, or Marris Otter Pale Ale. I also have about 250g of light crystal malt grain left over from my last batch and a freezer full of all sorts of hops - Hallertau, goldings, saaz etc. I'd like...

    DIY Marmite

Has anybody tried making marmite from your yeast after fermentation? I've googled around but I can't find a recipe. I'm sure the home made stuff will taste bad and in the worst case scenario it might even taste as bad as Vegemite, but I still think it will be fun to have a go at it.

    carbonating sparkling wine

Hi All The Millenium sparkling wine kit makes 11 and a half litres and says to carbonate with 215g (1 and 1/4 cup) of corn sugar. I got 15x 700ml bottles out of this. Instructions found here: www.brew-winemaking.com/ProductPDF/4269.pdf Does anyone think the amount carbonating sugar is...

    Big Ups to AG

Hi All WOW, my fourth AG not only tastes good, but really great! I'm absolutely amazed at the difference in flavour between extract and AG. :D My first AG attempt was Edworts Haus Pale Ale, I don't know how I messed it up but it's overwhelmingly strong in the flavour department, It might...

    Bottle grenades!!! woooooh!

Wow I just had my first bottle grenades and man are they deadly! The Corona bottles were the first to go, they were in a cardboard box and sharp glass shards were everywhere inside it, they were stuck in to the sides of the box and some even made their way out of the box (I don't know how)...

    Old Brown Sparkling Wine

Hi All I bought a 2-3 year old sparkling wine kit at a bargain price and bought new yeast. I've fermented it and transferred it to secondary to clear, however it's brown! Apparently the grape juice oxidises in the bag after a year or so and causes the colour change and a bitter aftertaste...

    Baked Bean Wheat Beer.

Now I know why they say drink your wheat beers early. I found some Hoegaarden clones in the basement that were 4 months old and they taste like baked beans, it's horrible! - I actually like baked beans but it's not a nice flavour in beer.

    Band Aid Brew

Hi All My attemt at a Duvel clone is in the secondary right now and smells overwhelmingly like band aids. Some references say it's a contamination and others say it's a yeast reaction to the chlorine based sanitiser in my fermenter, does anyone know specifically what the cause is? Is there...

    Cherry Wheat/Ale questions

Hi All I will have a Wyeast belgian abbey ale yeast cake available soon and I'd like to simply dump some fresh wort on it to simply get better value out of it and I'd like to make a nice and easy beer. I'd like to make a cherry or berry flavoured beer and I have at my disposal a Muntons...

    Muntons Export Pilsener kit

Hi All The AG Duvel clone in the fermenter is ready to go to secondary and I'm going to dump new wort from a beer kit on the Wyeast Belgian Abbey Ale yeast cake to get better value out of it ($30 for the smack pack!). The yeast cake contains remenants of saaz and styrian goldings hops. The...

    Way too much corriander

I usually use half an ounce of corriander in my wits but the last recipe I used called for a whole ounce, some of you warned me that it was too much but I added it all anyway and now it's definetely over spiced! It's annoying because it tastes like it would be a really good wit if I had only...

    Age beer in seconds

The Japanese have invented a machine that gives wine years of aging in only a few seconds, I wonder if that can be done with beer, because it's so hard to age those Belgians! http://www.avenuevine.com/archives/000691.html

First AG - EdWorts Haus Pale Ale - Q's

Wow that was fun! I made my keggle this morning and brewed EdWorts Haus Pale Ale. It even attracted a new neighbourhood cat who enjoyed licking the spills from the mash tun. I only ended up with 4 Gallons of wort with an SG of 1.060. Ed's recipe calls for 5.5 gallons at 1.051. Should I top...
