    Chill in fermenter before pitching?

Thanks for the reassurance in the trub; that's what I was hoping. I'm not surprised at the evaporation rate today as the beer didn't seem to one boiling at the same level as the American ale I did last week. It was a British brown today. I'm running kits for these first few batches to get back...

    Chill in fermenter before pitching?

Gotcha. Makes sense on all accounts. My small chiller came with one hose adapter and I've ordered the other one needed for the setup. Had a bigger ice bath today and that worked okay. I siphoned into the fermenter last time (15 gallon pot is big!) but today poured. Wasn't able to control trub...

    Chill in fermenter before pitching?

I think he is suggesting to run them in series with the first IC in ice water, which chills the hose water, which then runs into the second IC that is in the wort. Nice idea, and as I have a second small IC, will look into it. Sourcing parts can be tricky here but worst case I can always wait...

    Chill in fermenter before pitching?

I'm living in Africa for a couple years and my hose water temp is about 85-90 degrees, sometimes more. I've only brewed my first batch after a 15+ year hiatus and was successful in using my copper coil and then lifting the brewpot into an ice bath. I got the temp down to about 80 before...

Ok to score fill marks inside stainless brew pot?

My pot doesn't have any volume indicators so I planned to measure with a fermenter and then score the inside accordingly. Then I realized that this may very well lead to corrosion and sanitizing issues. Is there a mitigating remedy in the hypothetical scenario where someone has already done...

    Bayou Propane Burner Boil time?

I realize that there are variables, of course. I'm using a 15 gallon stainless boil pot on the burner linked in the first post. It's rated as a 180K BTU but I don't think I was getting that. Even though there are variables, I'm curious to know how long it takes people to boil 3 gallons of...

    Bayou Propane Burner Boil time?

Single Propane Burners, High Pressure Propane Burner SP10 I moved to Nigeria a few months ago and brought a bunch of equipment to get back into brewing while I'm down here. It took me a long time to get propane hooked up (they don't use U.S. style connectors here and I've got a setup...

What are all these parts for?

I've figured it out, for the most part. I'd forgotten that I brought a cooler for mashing as well and most of this is for the conversion kit on the cooler.

What are all these parts for?

Hi all! First, brief backstory. Got a job assignment that put me in Africa for a couple years, so I decided to get back into brewing. I'd done some kit brewing almost 20 years ago in college, but after hanging with a friend who does all grain, I bit the bullet, bought a bunch of equipment, a...

Why won't my March pump march?

Not always an option though, when you've got two pots on burners that you want to transfer between. :(
