    100% Wheat Beer Recipe Suggestions

I just made a wheat beer that had 45% wheat and 30% rye. I used a pound of rice hulls and the otherness 25% was 6 row. I had a horrible stuck sparge. You could take out the rye and use only wheat instead. I late hopped with calypso using an ounce at 15, 5, 1. I am fermenting with us05 and it...

what efficiency do you get and what do use to get it?

10gal round cooler with false bottom. Batch sparging with either Midwest or NB crush (lower efficiency from NB). I get 72% efficiency almost every time I brew. It is rare when I don't hit my OG.

Elephant Poo Coffee, would you drink it?

I have had Kopi Luwak and found it to be wonderful. Low acidity, with good body and mouth feel. Very good coffee but nit worth the $400 a pound or whatever it was.

    American Rye Help

I finally got to brewing this this morning. Other than the horrible stuck sparge everything seemed to go well. I thought the calypso hops were similar to summit. Other than the very slight fruitiness the dankness was very similar. The hydro sample tasted amazing. Too bad I was a gallon short in...

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

Dead guy is pretty damn good in my opinion. Go somewhere that cleans their beer lines and has higher turnover.

    Calypso hops?

I used calypso in an American rye today. The smell was similar to summit in my opinion. Some citrus, slight fruitiness, some what dank, and possibly oniony. I just pitched the yeast and I will follow up when it is finished. It was all late hop additions. 1oz each at 15, 5, 1.

    All about Eisbock

Brewing TV has an episode on it. What they did was add priming sugar to a 1 gallon milk jug and fill with beer. They put it in the freezer for 4 to 8 hours until it was slushy. Then they racked it straight into bottles. The beer carbed fine and it was concentrated. I am too lazy to post the link...

Lager fermentation done fast. Go ahead and D-rest?

Buttery or toffee like. I detect a butter (like movie theater popcorn butter) aroma from diacetyl and I taste it as butterscotch.

I want to open a home brew shop...

    1) locally at either Midwest supplies or northern Brewer. 2)on equipment? Not much. Maybe 100 bucks. I have all I need for the most part. 3)selection. I have northern Brewer and Midwest within 15 minutes of my house. But if I lived in a smaller area I would like it if my local shop could...

    American Rye Help

That was my reasoning. I figured the 6 row would help convert everything. I do plan to do a half hour protein rest and a half hour at 150*.

    American Rye Help

I am a fan of late hopping as well. Is there any reason I should use 2 row? Because of the amount of wheat and rye is 6 row appropriate?

    American Rye Help

Hello, I have been thinking of making an American Rye/Wheat beer and I want some suggestions. I think the grist will be alright, but I am worried I might over hop it. Give me some suggestions on what to do. Target Gravity - 1.050 IBUs - 32.8 Color - 4.3 SRM Est ABV - 5.5%...

    FWH Questions

I would add them as you are lautering. I batch sparge personally and I have always added the hops to my kettle and collected my wort. I have done 90 and 60 minute boils with FWH and I haven't noticed any negative effects. The long sparge is my only question. Considering it is FWH I would say...

    Raisins for carbonation?

I am curious about this. I do not really know how yeast works outside of bread and beer. My question is -- if there were still yeast on the skins of the raisins wouldn't it ferment the raisins in the package and make it swell? Wouldn't the same thing happen to apples or grapes if they were not...

    Raisins for carbonation?

Well, you have one advantage in that if you do too many raisins you can purge the gas and shake the carbonation out of the beer. If only it worked that easily with bottles. If you scale the raisins up from 3 per bottle (assuming 48 bottles per 5 gallons) you could try 144 raisins. A better way...

    Raisins for carbonation?

Well I don't know if I would say more reliable. So far it seems to be pretty damn consistent. I did mention the carbonation has leveled off but I plan to keep a few bottles and age for a while to make sure no bugs take hold.

    Raisins for carbonation?

I want to give some more feedback now that it has been a few weeks. I have had both raisin carbed beer and the corn sugar primed beer side by side and have not found much different. What I have found different is the raisins carbed the beer more than the measured sugar did. We primed...
