Moving to all Grain Go big or Go Small?

Yeah.. we've been putting a lot of thought into that. I'd really like to decrease the prep on starters. We've pitched onto slurry and we're thinking of getting a pressure canner for worth. I'm also getting into freezing yeast. Yeah, the flat fee is great. We also allow other friends not...

Moving to all Grain Go big or Go Small?

I'm in a similar situation, I brew with two other friends. My requirement going in was everyone had to keg, because bottling for three people didn't interest me. We mash in a very large cooler (40gal), and drain into two 15.5gal keggles. We usually match gravities and hops, but we sometimes...

New keggle with wrong coupler - options?

I had my brother send 4 kegs to a welder to get converted to keggles. We're starting really basic and only putting a single port on all of them and put a pickup tube on the other side. As we grow into our setup, we'd add ports for volume / recirc / temp etc.. They came back, and the welds are...

Can you bypass a propane timer?

Removing the timer is pretty easy. I followed the steps here without any problems: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/turkey-fryer-burner-timer-interlock-mod-123043/ Oh, and test the thermometer.. I found mine was really bad for hitting my mash temperature.

About to start my second BIAB and would like some comments

I mashed at 155F.. After a bit of reading I'm doubting my thermometer. It came with my turkey fryer. So next batch I'll go get a more trusted one. All reading were done using a hydrometer and I used http://www.brewersfriend.com/hydrometer-temp/ to adjust. The hydrometer seems accurate...

About to start my second BIAB and would like some comments

So, two weeks later I thought I would check in and see where this guy fermented at. It's cleared up a bit, but still had some cloudiness.. I gave it a taste and it was certainly sweet. The Gravity is sitting at 1.034 The temperature gauge on my Carboy reads 70F  Pre boil I...

About to start my second BIAB and would like some comments

Thank you all!!! :rockin: my post got delayed (probably because I'm new) and I brewed on Monday without these comments. Your advice was spot on though! Calculators show me at 77% efficiency. Efficiency aside there's lots I could improve on to have a better brew. 1. The double crush...

About to start my second BIAB and would like some comments

Obligatory first post and questions. :) Last weekend I did a no sparge BIAB of da yooper's house pale ale.. I thought I nailed it, but I only hit 64% efficiency. I'm actually quite happy with that, but I'm looking to improve. I'm doing cream of three crops tomorrow and I'm very hopeful...

Cascadian Dark help - Does this look ok?

Hrm, I bought some 2lbs of Munich a week ago on Finlayson no problems. I wonder if I got the last of that bunch and then they ordered more? lol I've been ordering in pounds, but I'd like to see their faces when you ask for .310 kilos of a certain grain :D You need to start growing some...
