    Belgian Saison Extract Recipe

a few years too late, but here goes. I looked at my brewing book notes and no it didn't stall. at the time I was living in a small 1980s house with the insulation of tissue paper in Arizona, brewing during June/July.... and only having a swamp cooler and no A/C... getting it to 80 degrees was...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Hank's Hefeweizen in the ale pale right now. Only took 3 hours start to finish and it was like riding a bike. 9 years later and after brushing up on my technique online I have it in the fermenter. Now I just gotta wait 2-3 weeks, then bottle condition for 2 weeks more before I can try it... *sob

    Belgian Saison Extract Recipe

holy crap!!! THIS was the Saison recipe I used to make. I'm back to brewing and wanted to go grab the ingredients at my LHBS this week to brew it up. I remember this being utterly fantastic if you let it bottle condition for 4-6 months as it was such a high ABV (I always got about 8.6% when...

    rebuying gear

out of curiosity, does anyone know if the Northern Brewer 6.5 gallon lids work withe Brewmaster buckets??? I have that lid from the one with teh spigot and was thinking of just grabbing the Brewmaster ale pail from my LHBS and using the NB lid to save a few bucks and not waste a lid

    rebuying gear

I know it PROBABLY is safe, I just didn't want one more point of failure so I picked up a $14.99 brew bucket without a spigot at my LHBS and called it a day. I guess I'll have a second bottling bucket or use it for Saisons that I brew hot and fast outside a water bath

    rebuying gear

gahhhh!! of course I didn't look closely. the NB kit has a freaking spigot on the brew bucket too, which means submerging it in an ice water bath for 2-3 weeks would NOT be good. *sigh. that explains why I didn't see a racking cane or beer theif in the parts list. I'll just grab a basic brew...

    rebuying gear

yes, I am bottling this fine brew as I always did. I don't drink a whole ton so a batch will last months, making bottles more effecient for cracking one open before a movie or what not. and yeah, that's exactly how I used the bottle wand ...easy assembly line filling that way and yeah, I was...

    rebuying gear

yeah, I looked at the morebeer kit too, but I decided to go with the tried and true "brew buckets" NB version simply because I temp control using the old fashioned "stick the bucket inside a tub filled with water and frozen 2 liter bottles" as temp control (internal house temp is 78 thanks to...

    rebuying gear

Yeah. I like the 3 pieces for active ferm. I always found the s shape would run out of water early, were harder to clean and a pain to refill if they run out early from a vigorous ferm

    rebuying gear

welp, ended up getting a good coupon code on the Norther Brewer deluxe kit with the Hank's Hefe on it. Actually if I remember correctly that same kit with the same hefe was my very first kit 14 years ago lol. grabbed some Oxy cleaner and star san too. Figure I should be good to go except for...

    rebuying gear

I've been out of brewing for about 10 years due to some health issues (a pain condition that alcohol worsens, which I've finally figured out what was causing it and addressed) and naturally my gear is pretty much all gone and/or needs to have been replaced anyways due to being plastic. anyways...

    brew kit "coupons".

due to health reasons I've been out of the beer brewing world for about 5 years, and as such, most of my plastic brewing supplies DEFINITELY need replacing. I remember back in the day it was like a rotating monthly deal of groupon/living social to get some pretty crazy deals on brew kits, but...

    Oxi Clean for Homebrewing?

use the LA's Awesome stuff that you can get from most 99cent stores or dollar trees. stuff is GREAT and I've been using it for years

    best deal on equipment

yeah, seems like it. Midwest has a basic kit for $49.99 + ship which seems to have a solid extract pale ale plus all the plastic I need to restart. may have to grab that

    best deal on equipment

well, I had used them for 3 years BEFORE going on hiatus and they had gotten a few scratches in them and the wands, tubing etc had etched and lightly cracked after so much used. I have everything but the plastic... I was just looking for a basic starter kit go get me going like the old Midwest...

    best deal on equipment

Ok, I've been away from the brewing scene for almost 3 years due to a severe illness that I'm slowly getting used to (chronic pain so I was kind of not exactly caring about drinking beer for a while). Anyways I had a Midwest supplies groupon deal for gear back then (still have it actually), but...

Ran out of pbw can I use one step to remove bottle labels

hmmm, I might be wrong. I always thought it was the regular TSP and not the TSP "green" stuff, but it's been a while since I researched it. I usually don't even use the tsp, just the oxiclean and it works great... I soak for 24 hours though

Ran out of pbw can I use one step to remove bottle labels

you want to use regular TSP... not the TSP/90

    I hate my carboy!!
