    Show us your blogs!

When I searched to view some of yours, I found that some of you have blogs in your signatures, but there wasn't a consolidated thread for blogs. I just started mine about a week ago. I'm very interested in feedback, but I'm most interested in some of your own! Post 'em up! I need new reading...

    Lager Temperature Swings.

So, my fridge is dead. Basement only gets to 58. And primary fermentation is complete. I had the crazy idea to put the carboy on my deck, but the highs are 65 and the lows are 35. Anyone know if large temperature swings will have a negative effect on the processs?

    Beverage line assembly

I am having a hell of a time assembling my bev-out line. The picnic tap doesn't want to insert fully and the nipple fitting for the quick disconnect took me 20 minutes too insert. I heated the hosing intermittently with hot water, but it only makes it marginally easier. What do you guys do...

    Virginia Homebrew Festival

So I was at my LHBS and I noticed their franchise was sponsoring a homebrew festival in Chapel Hill, NC and inviting homebrewers to donate and serve beer to the public in return to enter a homebrew competition and free entry. The public was paying ~20 a ticket and received a number of tastes and...

    Lake Monticello Area Brewers?

Anyone live out at the lake that wants to meet up to brew or trade homebrew? Just moved to the area recently.

Force Carbing with Long Diptube (Out) Diptube?

So I was cleaning and sanitizing a ball lock corny one night when I was tired and put the dip tubes in the wrong sides. When I hooked up the gas I heard the keg blowing bubbles and thought it was odd, but just went to bed. Two days later I went to pull a sample and only pulled gas; it was then...

    Delaware's Honorary Yeast

Sam mentions he will be sharing the yeast for more collaborative work in DE. Any DE citizen homebrewers have the balls to go procure some?

    Saison de Noel

All right, you bastards. NB sold out of their limited edition yeast (and kit) and now I can't check this out. It's up to you to report your findings!

    Automotive gas tank overflow

So I was pumping gas and the pump kept shutting off every few seconds. After I filled the tank I was unsure whether my tank was full or if the pump was playing games again. I ended up over filling my tank and the surplus got all over on the inside of the gas cover area. I reported the fuel...

    Sanitizing Cocoa Nibs?

I recently brewed the Chocolate Milk Stout from Northern Brewer. They supplied 4 oz of cocoa nibs with the recipe kit. I was unsure how to sanitize these so I looked up the PDF online for the extract kit (I'm using the AG kit), and it just says to add them to the secondary. No mention of...

    Secondary conditioning tips

I used to use the technique of conditioning in a secondary until I popped an infection last year. I haven't been brave enough to do it again since. I have a 1.045 milk stout that I want to dry hop with cocoa nibs. I'm considering soaking these nibs in vodka to sanitize. But I'm still nervous...

    Family Traditions

Despite homebrewing's nascency in the last few decades, I know there has to be some of you out there that learned the pasttime from older generations. I would like to hear about some of your family traditions. Some of your family's superstitions. Family techniques.

    Primary fermentation temp schedules.

I have recently purchased a CF and a digital controller, but I am not certain how to prepare a temp schedule since the wort is exothermic. I have heard time and time again to just set it and forget it at 68, but that can't possibly be true since fermentation is an exothermic processes. I'm...

    Electric Brewery - Spiedel Braumeister

Have you guys seen this sonofabitch? I have a humble all-grain set up and I thoroughly enjoy my hands-on process; however, the automation of this machine gives me a hard-on. Aside from the limitations of the mash-tun (I think the 5 gallon set-up holds less than 10lbs of grain), this is...

    Heavy Seas' Dubbel Cannon Clone

Heavy Seas released a "Belgian-Styled IPA" within the last year that is to die for. Although the beer seems like a misnomer since it is neither hoppy nor pale, I am very interested in recreating the experience that the tangy Belgian yeast character lends unto itself. Furthermore, Heavy Seas'...
