    Fermenting Tea Idea's

I recently thought about looking for hard tea recipes. I love to brew beer but I do not have a lot of time as of late, or money. I haven't done and research on hard tea yet, but I ALWAYS make iced tea in the summer. My recipe goes: 12 Lipton Tea bags 1/4 cup Agave nectar 2 quarts water...

Brewstand build, hows it look so far?

Well I'm building a brew stand, to keep all my stuff together and hopefully make it easier for me to brew all grain and save me some time. Here is a rough picture of it so far. And here is an idea sketch: I'm on a really low budget, so some of my ideas are to save money, 1...

White specks on carboy neck, help please?

Transferred a cranberry wine into a secondary a few weeks ago, these little white specks just popped up on the neck. Have any ideas what these may be? Not sure what it is, but I was thinking I should rack it to another carboy just in case. Sean

    Pressing blueberries... Need some help!

I need a way to press my blueberries, I've been following this recipe: Welcome to Beer-Wine.com I need to press the bag and get the most juice I can to make 5 gallons. I did the same thing with a batch of cranberry wine and came up a liter short and had to top off wine some wine. I...

Winter hit, I never cut the old vines back...

Is this a bad thing? There are new vines starting just below the soil on all 3 of my plants, but I never cut back the old vines. Should I? I've searched but no luck. Sean

This is how we brew in New Hampshire...

Well... this is how I brew in NH. It's a wee cold in here (40 degrees) but all I needed was an aquarium heater and a trash can! Transfered into a secondary carboy today after 7 days, its almost there! Anyone else forced to ferment in the cold like this? Sean from NH

    WICKED score...

SO, I'm stepping into all grain. I just went to home depot and purchased much of the plumbing hardware I needed to make a MLT from a cooler. All I needed was a cooler now. Then it hit me. 6+ years ago my family sold their house and boxed and moved most of our possessions to our warehouse at...

cotes de blanc yeast or champagne?

I have a gallon of pressed cider from my local apple orchard, and 1 packets of cotes de blanc yeast and 1 packet of champagne yeast. Any chances I can get a good cider out of this? Any advice? Sean

Real Ale in a MINI KEG?

Alright... I have 3 gallons of stout dying to get bottled. Its been more than a month since final gravity so I REALLY REALLY need to bottle it. I have a busy job and haven't managed to find enough time to clean enough bottles and bottle it all. BUT, this past weekend I tried a stout on cask...

    How about, 1-1-1?

I recently brewed an all grain stout. It fermented for 5 days and was only a couple points from final gravity. I then racked into secondary. Can I clear at 50 degrees for 1 week, then bottle and age for 1 week, so I can bring the stout on vacation? Anyone else do this before? Sean From NH

    One HELL of a brewday.

A little back story. One failed extract brew under my belt, I decided to do an all grain batch. Dry stout, minimal equipment. I basically made it up as I went along for almost 9 hours, got to my kitchen at 8, was down maybe at 5, I have no idea I was butchered. Mainly... My lauter-tun DIDN'T...

    Cranberrys

SO after today, I might end up with 1 or 2 five gallon buckets full of fresh cranberrys. Anyone have suggestions on how to use these ;-) Sean

Any New England brewers want to swap?

I have a Winter Warmer that'll be ready in a couple weeks, and though it is a clone I'd love to hear some other brewers opinions! Who around here has beers to swap? Sean

Moldy film after secondary racking :-(

Racked from bucket to carboy last Friday and I come to work and find this. Its been in a 70 degree office. Should I re rack and keep it somewhere cooler?! Sean

    Used wine presses

I'm about to work out a deal with a guy for a table top press he has been using to press a very tart berry. Its called shizandra berry. Just wondering if its a good idea to go used on these things? Sean

    Too long in my bucket.

I've read that keeping beer in a primary bucket for more than 7 days can be bad, its been almost 10 for me. If I don't transfer today, I won't be able to until Monday... and the White Labs people said not to rack until 10 days fermentation. Tastybrew calculated my OG at 1.056 and my FG at...

Noob brewed too high gravity a beer, needs help!

I brewed a batch a little while ago, it was a chocolate porter/stout. I didn't realize at the time that my gravity was well over 1.060 (like 1.070 me thinks) and I pitched a packet of Nottingham ale yeast. It krausened and bubbled out the airlock slowly (though there was alot of krausen) and...

    water quality and bottling question?

I'm planning a small gallon batch of mean, was wondering what I should look for in water quality? Also, once the mead clears and is ready for bottling, is it ready to drink? Or do I have to lay it down ALSO like wine? Sean

    Fermentation...FINALLY!!!

Well, I brewed up a little test batch July 3rd. I have just enough bottles for one 5 gallon batch, but am short on cash and didn't want to spend money I didn't really have on 49 bottles of one kind of beer. I kinda rushed myself, OG was alittle low and I feared after filling up my gallon jug...

    Tap a Draft diagram?

I live in a tiny studio, and don't drink enough beer to justify a 5 gallon corny. I want to use the 5l mini kegs but, as I am a cheap skate, I'm pondering building my own faucet pressure system for them. Anyone have one that they can take pictures of for me? I have many misc. air fittings a...
