    Vienna Pale Lager... thoughts?

I need to get a lager in the pipeline and have been interested in these new IPL's (India Pale Lager) that I've been seeing recently, so I thought I'd try to make a blend between a Vienna Lager and American Pale Ale. German malts with an American hop twist, and a lager yeast of course. Let me...

Myrtle Beach, Craft beer suggestions please!

I'm heading to Myrtle Beach this weekend with my family for a week. Looking for some good local craft beer, brewpubs, breweries, etc. Any input is appreciated. I found New South Brewing online, but not much else other than just a few craft bars that I know nothing about. Thanks for your...

Volcanic explosion - DON'T move your fermentor

Just a word of advice there. Do not move an actively fermenting carboy/bucket/ete. I brewed a 1.108 barley wine Saturday am. Pitched 1/2 of a Wyeast Burton IPA Blend yeast cake and saw signs of active fermentation by early evening. Sat evening through Sunday evening it was happily bubbling...

The Great Trub Experiment - article

Great article experiments with removing break/trub material vs not. Very interesting results. I don't worry about trub. Seems like it's not an issue. http://brulosophy.com/2014/06/02/the-great-trub-exbeeriment-results-are-in/comment-page-1/#comment-231

Morning all. I'm brewing a barley wine this weekend and just read an article in BYO that talks about pitching several types of yeast. The idea is to get some English character from one strain and the attenuation power from another. I currently have two yeast cakes that are ready for collecting...

    Mash Conversion Experiment

I ran a little experiment today to see how long mash conversion takes. This has been discussed many, many times on other threads so I thought I'd do my own experiment and post the results. 9.5lbs of grain -- Thin mash 2qt/lb -- 60min total -- Strike water @162F to reach a starting mash temp...

When will 2014 New Zealand hops come out?

Just curious if anyone knows when the 2014 New Zealand hops will be available for sale? I have plans to use a few varieties for the first time and figured I may as well wait for the freshest possible since they've already been harvested. Most sites don't list if they are selling 2013 or 2014.

    Weissbier Festwiese

I recently had an Erdinger-Festwiese at a German bar in Philadelphia. I was blown away! I do enjoy the occasional wheat beer, but this was a fantastic blend of wheat beer and oktoberfest maltiness. It was tough to find a recipe, but after searching the web for a few weeks i was able to put this...
