    Fermometer on Plastic?

I'm wondering if I should even worry about putting a Fermometer on my Better-Bottle and/or primary bucket? I'll be doing secondary in the better-bottle and I don't think temp is as important as it is in the primary. I'll only be doing ales for the time being (no lagering). I know plastic is a...

    Tastes Watered Down

that sounds like a good plan. Mr. Beer is such a toy I can't wait to start real brews (well extract) with real equipment

    Tastes Watered Down

So I'm in the middle of my first ever brew. Long story short I got a Mr. Beer for $4 that I just wanted to try (have ordered a full kit now as I am addicted). So I brewed last Saturday, then after 20 hours w/o yeast activity I figured my dry Mr. Beer pack that was who know how old was dead...

Safe to Primary in Bucket w/ Spigot?

So it seems like bottling bucket as a primary will be alright. Should I still rack out into the secondary or use the spigot? I've read about sanitizing bottles with the heat cycle of the dishwasher. Does anyone know if that is alright for PET bottles? I'm pretty sure they cannot go above...

Safe to Primary in Bucket w/ Spigot?

I really want to do a secondary stage so I figure the Better-Bottle is better for that. Not to mention I would rather transfer wort into a bucket cause its so much easier. Maybe I'll just pick up another bucket and use it and the lid for primary, better-bottle for secondary, and bottling bucket...

Safe to Primary in Bucket w/ Spigot?

I have read some things that say just be sure to clean very well. My LHBS has a kit with 6gal Better-Bottle, 7.8gal bottling bucket w/ lid and spigot, airlock w/ stopper, springless bottle filler, racking cane, 5ft of tubing, hydrometer and sanitizer/cleanser. I assume I would primary in...

    New Guy - NE Florida

After thinking some more about this carboy deal I am wondering if I am better off just going with the LHBS kit that includes a bucket primary and get a better-bottle secondary. Easier to pour, handle, and clean than a glass carboy just need to be careful about scratches. Also I can sanitize...

    New Guy - NE Florida

Hey guys, I've been reading up on homebrewing for a little while in the Papazian book. I got a Mr. Beer (toy homebrew) from a friend for dirt cheap, 2 Gal for $4 cost is not bad. Too bad his dry yeast was nonactive after 20+ hours. I just added some White Labs Cali Ale yeast and hopefully...
