    nylon bag

Hey, I just logged in to create a thread about using the nylon bags, vs using a dish towel (flour sack towel), and there are two current threads about these stupid bags already. When I started, I got the 1 gallon fruit wine kit from Midwest, which came with a nylon bag, so I used that for my...

    Neglected fermentations...

What if there are more than 1/4" lees? I think I'm probably ok but it's hard to tell as I have glass beads in the carboys. If the wine picks up any bad flavor from the lees, should I rack it and age it in the carboy some more, or bottle it anyway then age it in the bottle a while? While I'm on...

    Neglected fermentations...

I've had a crazy year with work, and have had several wine projects sit mostly neglected for the last 8-9 months in secondary. I have made sure there's water in the air locks and that they are topped up enough. They had all been racked once or twice before going neglected so they hopefully...

Thanks for the info. I'm glad it sounds like I'll be able to avoid this in the future. It's interesting to note that most people I've had sample my wine can't taste the rubbery off taste that I notice but its very distinct to me. Any thoughts on how long this will take to age out? Should I...

Sparkling Peach White Wine, Great Recipe

If you don't want to use a hydrometer, you can calculate how much sugar to add by using an online calculator such as at: http://www.brewhaus.com/Calculators-C108.aspx (third one down) See how much sugar you are starting with by reading the label on the juice bottle/can, then calculate how much...

    rubber stopper imparting bad flavor?

Hello, I'm pretty new to wine making and have been doing a lot of fruit wines. I have a 3 gallons of blueberry, 3 gallons of crabapple, a gallon of blackberry and a gallon of strawberry going. Anyway I've been using rubber stoppers with holes in them for airlocks on my secondary fermenters...
