    Bottle Aging a Hef

I agree with Fizzycist. I made a hefe with what I thought was the perfect mixture of banana and clove notes (yeah overly complicated temperature control) and I drank it 3 weeks out and just finished the last bottle 6 months out and they tasted exactly the same. It's just one of those beers great...

Can I make an IPA out of these ingredients?

The important thing about IPAs is heavy hopping with a hop taste you like, and you can't go wrong with cascade, my second favorite next to tettnang. The only thing I can think of is that cascade is a highly floral hop with little actual taste. Might want to half that with a hop that has more of...

    My first beer is DRINKABLE!

Congrats! As long as beer has alcohol in it and it's not deadly it's drinkable! I'm sure you did a great job and if you are anything like me(I'm highly critical of my brews, like my cooking) I find all the flaws in my brews before anyone else. Keep at it, it only gets better!

    Shiner Ruby Redbird Clone Recipe

Completely unfair, I guess because San Marcos is closer you get it first. If I knew who the local distributor was, I would definitely complain(for some reason I can't figure out who is the distributor on Dallas. Also I will definitely have to try reeds, if it's as good as the stuff i got in...

    Shiner Ruby Redbird Clone Recipe

Thanks for the pics, and yes it's a very shameful thing to steal someones brew pot. I have had one bottle bomb (my first experiment with a very heavy beer, not sure exactly what happened, my guess winter and a downstairs neighbor with a very hot thermostat and my beer on the ground) so I'm...

    Shiner Ruby Redbird Clone Recipe

This actually looks pretty good! Someone stole my brew pot... broke into my car, left my car stereo, left my $600 dollar golf clubs in my $150 bag and took my brew pot  So I could rock out a partial mash and have this ready in time for a side by side tasting! I'm assuming you just accounted...

Need suggestions for first AG Brew!

My first AG was a magic hat clone. Turned out great, still my favorite beer to date even though I have several more under my belt. Trick is finding something you love and trying to emulate it. My 2nd favorite is my hefe that I used temp control to get the banana aroma. It was awesome!

    Anyone ever seen this before?

Am I just seeing giant air bubbles? can you give us some details? How long in primary? Smell? etc

    Shiner Ruby Redbird Clone Recipe

Sorry to start a thread and disapear, but glad to see there is other brewers interested in this topic! I just got through moving and have graduated from apartment brewing to garage brewing (how many more steps until I run a brewery :mug: ). I didn't think about the acid problem with adding...

    Shiner Ruby Redbird Clone Recipe

Now, before anyone judges me, I loved Shiner Ruby Redbird. I know that it wasn't the most popular brew and that many people disliked it, but, I loved it. Everyone I know loves it. It is the beer that has been requested the most for me to make. I would like to make it so it is available to me and...

Not the typical first timers question

Thanks again for the suggestions, I think I'll add it tonight and then rack when it seems to slow down... or wait a few more weeks. I figure it doesn't matter much as I'm not planning on opening my first pumpkin brew until late october anyway.

Not the typical first timers question

I figured it out! and I feel stupid. First batch I figure had bad efficiency due to a lot of factors, mostly poor temp control. The second batch i wasn't able to figure out until I opened my cabinet the other day and saw the candy sugar that was suposed to go in with the boil... looking at...

Not the typical first timers question

Thank you for your suggestions, I haven't even seen the monster mill. I'll have to check it out. I like the looks of the barley crusher and not a bad price tag.

Not the typical first timers question

I was thinking about getting a crusher, is the Barley Crusher the best available?

Not the typical first timers question

Haha, glad to entertain. I actually did do the double sparge on the second one and got the exact same efficiency. I did a 7 gallon boil (fun to say the least in a 7.5 gallon boil pot). i boiled down to 5 gallons. In the end it's not too big a deal, but I would like to be closer to 75% eventually.

Not the typical first timers question

I'm checking in after a long while. I have successfully brewed bottled and currently enjoying my first batch and have a Magic Hat #9 clone close to bottling and a pumpkin beer that I plan on aging until october, both all grain. Going fairly well. I was closer to 65% on my efficiency. So I have...

Not the typical first timers question

Skeeter Pee sounds delicious... and summer just starting hmmmm... Turns out that my batch survived everyones ill will(so far anyway). Took my first hydrometer reading today since the start of fermentation. Smells like delicious beer, looks like delicious beer, taste like delicious beer... a bit...

Not the typical first timers question

Thanks everyone again for their kind advice. I think I'm going to try deathbrew's stove-top method. It actually goes well with my apartment setup and my stove can boil 6 gallons easy. I may do a partial brew or two to get used to dealing with grain as well. Hopefully (fingers crossed) I'll have...

Not the typical first timers question

Joe K: Is the 8 gallon brew pot excessive for 5 gallon batches? JonM: I might just do that

Not the typical first timers question

maffewl: All stuff I need... I live in an apartment though so I'm not sure about the burner. I guess I can brew on my patio and explain to the cops that no, I am not brewing meth ;). jonM: If I use a counterflow wort chiller will I still need the thermoplastic tubing? Thanks for the suggestions
