Missed my OG by a few points, should FG be off by the same amount?

On my last batch, my OG was expected to be 1.046 and I hit 1.050 (+0.004). My expected FG was 1.007, but actual was 1.012 (+0.005). Is that true in general that if you miss your OG by 0.00x, you will miss your FG by approximately the same 0.00x due to the yeast attenuation staying the same?

    Trouble finding replacement racetrack lid/valve

I came across a ball lock keg with an odd racetrack lid. Turns out, the relief valve didn't work and none of my other ball valve relief valves fit, so I ordered a replacement lid from KegOutlet.com (http://www.kegoutlet.com/keg-lid-rec...ack-style.html). Turns out, that lid didn't make a good...

California Custom built kegerator cabinet $700

Custom built kegerator cabinet. 64.75"l x 27.25"d x 34.75"h Kegerator opening is 24.25" wide and currently fits a 3 tap kegerator (Haier HBF05EBSNK-3, kegerator, tower and taps not included), but it should fit most retail kegerators. Back of the cabinet where the kegerator is is open for...

Mash temp of 147 = Est FG 1.007, but mash temp of 146 = 1.013?

Using BeerSmith, when I set the mash temp of my recipe to 147, I get an estimated FG of 1.007. When I lower the mash temp to 146, the estimated FG bumps up to 1.013. I would expect the FG to go lower/drier at a lower mash temp. Am I missing something here?

Problem with Bru'n Water and EZ Water spreadsheets

I put in (what I think) are the same values for an upcoming Oktoberfest that I'm brewing and the output from both of these spreadsheets is pretty different (5.49 vs 5.2 pH). Can someone take a look at my spreadsheets and tell me what I'm doing wrong? Background: I'm brewing with 100% RO...

    Flanders Red - Oak cubes

I recently brewed the Flanders Red recipe in Brewing Classic Styles. In it, it says to use 1oz of oak cubes in secondary. Does it mean I should put them in at the start of secondary and let them sit on oak cubes for the entire (6-12months) secondary? Also, how should I treat the cubes before I...

Wort volumes and temperatures in BeerSmith

During my brew day, I will measure the gravity and volume several times (to measure strike water, 1st/2nd runnings, pre-boil, post-boil) so I can track my efficiency. For those numbers that go into BeerSmith (pre-boil, post-boil), am I supposed to put in the actual volume or the temperature...

    Kegerator cabinet

Now that I have my 3 tap kegerator in the house, I figured I needed to make it look a little nicer and more like some nice furniture. My wife found some inspiration from this page. Since my brother makes cabinets for a living, I figured he could take a shot at it. So here's what we have...

All-grain brew day (lots of photos)

After about 8-10 AG brews so far, my efficiency is not what I'd like it to be. So I thought I'd photograph everything and take extra good notes. Then maybe someone can tell me what's wrong with my efficiency. I set the BeerSmith overall efficiency to 65%. Actual efficiency was 59.5%...

    Weldless ball valve problems

Just opened up a Christmas present of a new 10gal MegaPot with weldless ball valve kit, but I can't get it to install correctly. As you can see in the picture below, the o-rings won't get close enough to make a good seal. In the 4th picture, you can see the coupler doesn't go any further up...

    Building water from RO only

My local water is so bad, that I've decided to move to using 100% RO water and building my water profile manually. Before I do this, I wanted to make sure I'm doing it right (using the EZ water spreadsheet) Recipe (4 SRM): 1 lbs 14.0 oz Cane (Beet) Sugar (0.0 SRM) 13 lbs 12.0 oz...

    Secondary fermentation temperature

I have a Honey Blonde (WLP001) in secondary at 60F (primary @ 60 too). I want to start my next brew using WLP530. I was thinking I'd ferment this one @ 66F. How would it affect my Honey Blonde if I finish its secondary @ 66 instead of 60 like it's been for a few weeks?
