    Used corny that had pesticides?

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. As I suspected, there are some opinions on both sides. Some clarifications: -I absolutely would replace any rubber fittings, that's a no-brainer -I absolutely would NOT sell or give away without telling what I know (suspect, actually) about them I like the idea...

    Used corny that had pesticides?

I work for an agricultural company, and acquired a few corny kegs that likely were used to pressurize and spray pesticides in the past. A couple of them are real nice 3 gal cornys. Seeking advice as to what to do with them. I'm in the process of selling off a lot of my stuff and want to be...

4# CO2 tank exchange? Will they do it for a 5#?

I actually bought the 4# tank from Keg Connection. Brought to local welding shop, they said it's actually a 2.5# tank, even though it has 4# painted on the side. They were going to swap me for the 2.5# tank (they do swaps only, no refills) for $11. Said they only see people swap that size...

    Magnets for stir plate

Just made one last night. I agree that a flask would work better, but it can be done with a growler. The key for me was to get the magnet balanced in the center of the growler when you start it up, as long as I did that it worked pretty well!

Show us your DIY stir plate!

Yeah, that was left from the last time I made a starter. We hosted the afterparty for our city league kickball team, and had a lot of people running through the house. Figured it couldn't hurt to keep the yeast going!

Show us your DIY stir plate!

Put one together tonight out of a cigar box, some cheap parts from Radio Shack, a magnet, and a PC fan. Have it hooked up to a 9V battery for now, but will hardwire it later. Not the prettiest (on the inside), but it works. Wonder if anyone has done this with 9V batteries, wonder how long it...

Stirplate DIY - no juice to fan

I got a new fan, and got it to run off a 9V battery. Guessing the other fan is dead. Sorry to start such a bonehead post.

Stirplate DIY - no juice to fan

I forgot to mention but I did try switching wires. I have so many plugs that I'd like to do it without buying something new. Mine isn't even weak or too fast, I just can't get it to go at all.

Stirplate DIY - no juice to fan

I'm working on a DIY stirplate to install in a cigar box, much like the epic thread that I found somewhere on here. I have a very simple problem: I cannot get any juice to the fan. I'm not a total wiring noob, I have some electronics background as an engineer, but I can't figure it out...

Leftover Hops... what do I make?

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll go with the suggestion from NochEineMassBitte. That recipe looks nice and straightforward. I'll probably do my hop additions as: 1 oz Sterling 60 min 1/2 oz Willamette 15 min 1 oz Hood 0 min Cheers!

Going to bump this, as I never got any replies. Any suggestions would be great!

Leftover Hops... what do I make?

I have accumulated some leftover hops that I'd like to use up in one batch if possible, but they're from varying styles. I'm still getting started, mate about ten batches so far but am not quite up to making my own recipes. Up for any suggestions. I'm brewing 5 gal all-grain batches on a...

Wheat from farm... what to do???

It's spring wheat from Nebraska. I would still want to mill it, correct?

Wheat from farm... what to do???

I have some wheat that was given to me from my grandfather, he says it's the best wheat harvest he's had in 30 years. Since I've started homebrewing, I thought it would be a nice testament to him to use his grain in a homebrew. He's a Miller guy, so something that would be a stepping stone...

    Green Apple Saison

I can see how that would be really sweet, but like you said, if that's what you're shooting for then good for you! I always try to make my flavored beers beers first, fruity second. This one turned out pretty good for me. Tried the first one over the weekend, flavor is great. Cinnamon is...

    Green Apple Saison

Just an update on this: I added 4 1/2 lbs of green apples, pureed (so probably about 4 lbs after taking out the cores) to my 5 gal batch. I added about 10 oz water to help the apples blend. Added them into primary (bucket), the fermentation picked up for awhile, but now bubbles about once a...

    Green Apple Saison

If I do go with real apples, how much should I use? One or two? And to I wait for the primary to ferment out completely before racking, or do I still want some fermentation left? Obviously, it will pick up some more with the sugar from the apples...

    Green Apple Saison

Thanks for your suggestions. Wouldn't 1 gal of cider in a 5 gal batch be too overpowering? That seems like a very large volume to add in. I was hoping to actually use real green apples instead of cider, as the green apple flavor is what I'm really after. If I insist on trying it with...
