Corny keg disconnect coming apart (ball lock)

Does anyone else have issues with their ball lock corny keg disconnect coming apart? For me it's always the black/beer out disconnect, never the C02, and either the spring shoots out of the top or the ball-locking sleeve mechanism comes off. It never appears to be broken, i can re-assemble, but...

DIY Glycol Chiller system (fermentor external)

Project Description: Adding glycol cooling system to exterior of an existing stainless fermentor and detachable from cooling unit. Kept cooling coils outside of fermentor for ease of maintenance/cleaning. Setup is easily capable of -20F below ambient, can probably do another -20 if needed...

    Mini Fridge/kegerator with 6 Faucets?!?

So my trusty 2 faucet DIY kegerator just wasn't cutting it anymore, so I hacked off the two tap tower and tagged on a 6 Perlick T-tower. It's fed by six 5-gal corny kegs which are obviously not all inside the converted wine fridge. But where are they? (the picture isn't cutting anything off...

    Mash sorghum syrup?

I recently asked for and got a quantity(1.5gal) of sorghum syrup, yea! But during the reducing process it looks to have caramelized quite a bit, to the point of molasses. I was hoping to make a sorghum beer with it, but it's not going to be very fermentable. Would malt enzymes work *some* magic...

Serving beer is as expensive as making it

A $1 for a stem, $2 for a splice, $5 for a disconnect- no big deal. Multiply by X for each line and looking at all the receipts with a 100+ of these "cheap" parts.... wowzers. And of course no single shop/website has everything needed so add another $10 per site for shipping.... and the opps, i...

    roasted rye

Need some roasted rye for the Dark Night of the Soul RIS? It's an unmalted grain that's hard to get anywhere. Approx $2/lb + $5 for shipping. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f68/dark-night-soul-russian-imperial-stout-21088/ Gauging interested in getting a 50lb bag, i'll buy it and ship it...

    roasted rye buy?

As others have experienced roasted rye* is next to impossible to buy. Only Weyermann and MFB even make it, and it's on the grain bill for the Dark Night of the Soul RIS: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f68/dark-night-soul-russian-imperial-stout-21088/ However one of the local breweries...

    Shank Cutting / Shortening

To make a shank shorter all you have to do is cut it, the hard part is getting close enough to perpendicular to the shank and getting the face smooth to give you a good seal. Complicating matters will be the threads, if you're using a flexible blade(eg hack saw) then your blade will sink between...

    Phases of a Homebrewer

I've only been brewing for a few years now and I'm seeing the various phases my buddies are going through (it takes one to know one right?) This is what i've been through so far, what can I expect to do next? 1) ansy, gotta check the fermentor ever few hours 2) crazy complicated reciepes 3)...

    Glycol line material

Is there a recommended line for glycol cooling? I need to cool a tower and a small trunk line, maybe 10ft each way. I thought about copper/stainless but it would be a royal pain, a bit pricey, and there's the risk of kinks if it got moved or bumped. The tower has 1/2" copper to the shank...

    Hollister Brewing: Popsicle Princess

Has anyone tried this? A buddy of mine went there and it's a bit far for me to check out but i thought it might be worth making to mix things up. POPSICLE PRINCESS - 4.8% ABV To describe this beer as different would be like comparing unicorns and narwhals. Brewed with a ridiculous quantity...

Alarmist article on BMC with no listed evidence but possible interesting points

http://foodbabe.com/2013/07/17/the-shocking-ingredients-in-beer/ She takes issue with corn syrup, isinglass, aluminum can liners, GMO barley.... interesting but unproven bits on coloring, flavoring, MSG..... It could have been a more decent article with better research, documented...

    Cleaning "new" glycol tower?

I thought I scored nicely with a 6 tap glycol chilled T-tower for $285... until it arrived. As I opened the box it looked alright, no visible scraches, no rust, no dents or other gouges, a tad crooked but nothing some elbow grease couldn't fix. Then i spotted some expanding foam that leaked out...

project ideas wanted: 1/6 bbl keg

A 5gal - 1/6 bbl keg came in and i'm stumped as to what i should do with it. I'm set for corny's, it's way too small for a brew vessel, does anyone have any suggestions? The only thing i can think of is to make it into a firebox for a BBQ smoker.... (my brother's hobby)
