    Blichmann Conical

Santa surprised me and brought a Blichmann 14.5 Conical Fermentor. Legs, wheels, the whole shebang. It's my first conical, and well, I'm most impressed. Leg extensions: Bless her heart SWMBO, but I don't think I need the leg extensions. Should I keep them, or return them to the LHBS?

    Pints for Prostates

http://www.pintsforprostates.org/ I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I don't see a better section... I saw an advert for this on the back page of the current Brew issue. I'm a PC survivor and this couldn't make me happier. Some quick facts then I'll leave you alone...

YAKK - Yet Another Keezer Kooler

Yes, it's a play on words. :) This is my 9.0 cu ft keezer project. First, some photos, then a question or two if I may: Your basic 9.0 with the lid off: With 2x6 riser: With 2x8 cedar collar attached (upside down on table saw): Framing done: Paint and clear coat...

Monitoring/controlling with Linux on the cheap

There are numerous controller solutions on the market. Some of them are really, really nice, but, they aren't cheap either. With this economy and a kid in college, it has to be cheap (or free) before I will consider it. While I don't have a pile of cash sitting around (thanks to UF), I do have a...

    is PID really needed?

I'm controlling temps in my fermentation chamber with an old linux 'puter and some extra parts. Now that I'm working my way into all grain, I was thinking about expanding this system to control the mashing process temps in a HERMS system. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, I did some...

    Fermilab

I inherited an old POS fridge this past weekend. The door seals are not great, but it makes cold air and was free, so I can't complain. I'm now using it as a fermentation chamber. I didn't have any spare A419's laying around to control the temps, but I do have a linux server, a DS18S20, one...

    Middle age crazy in FL

Hi. The last kid moved out last fall (off to UF) so we're empty nesters. With all this extra space (and much less mess) we decided to make a New Year's resolution: brew at least one batch of beer. We did that on Jan 6, and we're brewing batch #7 this weekend. :) Our first batch was a Bass Ale...
