Maryland Never used Blinged out Brewhemoth

Any chance you still have this? If so, would you consider parting ways with the coil? I really need one. Thanks!

    California Brewhemoth

Dumb question, but would you consider parting ways with the immersion coil for the Brewhemoth separately? I'm in dire need of one. Thanks!

    Brewhemoth conicals?

Ok, so I went ahead and finally ordered mine on Monday. Their website says there's a 20 day lead time. About how long has it taken those that have one for theirs to arrive?

    Pellicle Photo Collection

We had been using iodophor but recently switched to starsan. We get to go over everything this week and clean, disinfect and sanitize everything post-boil. Hooray! Also, to your point about replacing plastic, I've heard that once you have an infection like this one should trash all plastic or...

    Pellicle Photo Collection

Sorry to be a bit off-topic here, but we seem to have accidentally created a pellicle in a couple of unrelated beers we've made over the last couple of weeks - stout, fall pumpkin and an Irish red. What exactly is it that creates the pellicle and how could we have accidentally created one? I'm...

Possible mold on beer... dump it?

Thanks for the thread - very informative! So, if I'm reading all this correctly, so long as we rack the beer underneath the surface, the beer wont be spoiled, but it should have a distinctive "sour" taste? If so, how do you think this will play out in a stout w/ chocolate, vanilla & cinnamon...

Possible mold on beer... dump it?

I tried posting this question on another thread but the photos didn't come thru, so please excuse me for cross posting, but is this mold? and if so can we just rack the beer underneath or is the whole lot ruined?

weird ?mold? growth in my beer - is it infected?

We recently had a (possibly) similar situation with out chocolate/vanilla/cinnamon stout. Fermented or about 3 weeks and this is what we saw when we opened the carboy: I think it came from some left over gunk in our plate chiller - dint do a good enough job cleaning it out, I guess. Mold...

Using melanoidin malt in an English bitter

We've used it in our house red ale twice before. Not sure if we like it or not. May try to substitute a roasted malt next time - similar color with more of a nutty taste. We'll see.

Blichmann Fermenator Owners - Are You Happy?

Quick question about capacity. We're thinking about a 14.5G but we routinely brew about 13 - 14G per brew day - 15G pots. Just how much beer can you ferment in one of the 14.5G models? The 27G model wont fit in the brewery and from what I've heard when it's full it weighs more than kirstie...

Which Plate Chiller Should I Choose ?

We also use a Hop Stopper similar to this: and have had no trouble with bits of pellet hops getting caught up in it. Having said that, make sure you thoroughly rinse and clean your plate chiller after every use, preferably as soon as you're done transferring to your fermenter/carboy. Dont...

Which Plate Chiller Should I Choose ?

Went ahead with the B3-23A 30. According to Duda the inceased length should help improve chilling effectiveness, so we'll see. Hope yer right! Also, we have Camlocks on everything because it makes everything so much easier to connect and disconnect. Bargainfittings.com always has everything in...

Which Plate Chiller Should I Choose ?

Duda's website has an illustration showing (supposedly) the internals of its chillers and the plate look to have a chevron design stamped into their plates as well. Methinx I'm gonna increase both my cooling capacity with a larger chiller and try a greater-flowing pump. Pump i can get today...

Which Plate Chiller Should I Choose ?

Much thanks for everyone's feedback! :) To everyone's points, hadn't thought of putting the plate chiller in the big cooler, but i guess since I've already modified the smaller cooler i'll stick with it. We just put ice water in there to keep the chiller cool - one of my partners swears this...

Which Plate Chiller Should I Choose ?

And down here the ground water is hot. Forecast temps for the next week? 98, 96,98,99,98,96! So, this is the rig we've created to tackle the problem of both hot H2O and trying to keep the water bill reasonable - city water. Basically a 30G cooler filled with ice water @ around 35F pumped into...

Which Plate Chiller Should I Choose ?

cwilliams108 - We're having the exact same problem & we're looking at a bigger chiller, possibly the same 50-plate unit you use. Question i have is are you hooking up your garden hose to the water side and letting it run full-blast or do you have some kind of tank with water in it you pump thru...

    Removing labels from beer bottles.

I know it sounds completely mad, but a bench grinder with a wire wheel works wonders on stubborn labels. Soak them for about a day to minimize paper "dust" and put just enough pressure on the bottle to take the label off - not much. I'll try to do a quick vid in the near future.

Why don't more of you guys open your own breweries?

This is my first post on this forum so I guess I'd better make it a good one :0) I have a business partner and the two of us are going down this route. We've been brewing for some time and we believe we can make it happen. That's the first requirement - you need to believe that you can make it...
