Using 2 pots for 5 gal batch?

I used 2 pots for a while (in the kitchen) before I moved to an outside setup. My pot sizes were also different, so I calculated hop amount ratios and made sure to keep different timers on each boil. It worked fine, though a bit of a hassle to watch 2 boiling pots.

Left blackberry wine on yeast for 8 months

Hi, I made a small batch of blackberry wine late last Summer and between work and a new baby... Well, out of sight out of mind. Is the wine ruined, or what can I expect? I didn't rack it after the initial transfer to a glass jug and empty wine bottles. Any advice on how to proceed? I didn't...

3 1/2 gallons of beer on the keezer floor, 3 1/2 gallons of beer....

On 10/02 I brewed a Great Lakes holiday ale clone, had it in primary for 3 weeks, cold crashed for another 2, and patiently let it carb up in the keg. Wednesday night I put the beer line on and pulled a glass and was amazed how well it turned out. Even the wife said she would drink it, and she...

    Starter yeast blowover

Update Drank the first sample (or 7) after a week of keg carbing. Bottom line is it turned out great! Those yeasties took it all the way to 1.010. Amazing how many ways I try to screw up brewing and still end up with beer.

My first year Cascades. A very nice and unexpected collection of cones. The Goldings didn't produce cones and the Nugget never got out of the ground.

    Starter yeast blowover

BrewSmith defaults to 55 billion. I do see on White Labs that they range from 70-140 billion. Think I'll go ahead and pitch what I have and watch what happens. Thanks.

    Starter yeast blowover

Hi all, Need some input on brew day.... I made a slightly less than 2L starter of WLP001 for an Imperial IPA. Yesterday, I came home to see the flask covered in a thick gunky goo, presumably yeast. Also, the stirplate was coated in about 1/8" of the stuff. I cleaned it without disturbing...

    Hop Stoopid! Anyone had it?

Hmmm. I tried this twice on draft and didn't think much of it. With all the good press here, I'm wondering if the bar screwed up the keg. I didn't detect much if a nose and it seemed flat. Think I need to try it elsewhere or in bottles.

    Phenol taste

I do not use bleach - strictly starsan and iodiphor. I will use campden on the next brew and see how it turns out.

    Phenol taste

Hi all Love the forum and thanks to everyone who contributes, making research and learning much easier on us noobs. I have done 3 brews so far, the last 2 were all grain. Every one has had this medicinal taste which I am attributing to be chlorophenol. I sent in beer to a competition and...

    Induction cooktops

Thanks everyone. I have induction ready kettles now (just have to have a magnetic bottom) but they're not big enough. I'm guessing I won't have enough power sp looks like propane for me.

    Induction cooktops

Hi all Who else is using induction ranges as their primary brew kettle? I have a 5 gallon stainless kettle and can do a fairly quick and steady boil. The problem is I want to move up to a full boil. The last batch I collected almost 8 gallons of wort and did 2 - 90 minute boils, hop steeps...
