faucet shank with or without nipple/tailpiece

Getting ready to build a keezer and purchasing all the parts. I have a question on the shanks which dont require a separate tail piece. Should I get theses or buy individual tail piece, washer, and nut? Thanks.

    blowing starter's foil cap

Noticed this morning the foil cap on my starter was on the ground and yeast and stuff everywhere. I think it's been like this for 24 hours. Is the starter still good with it running for that long without the foil cover? Thanks..

    racking to previous yeast cake

First is this post showing under fermentation yeast? Doing this from my phone. Thanks. I bottled about 4 weeks ago and the carboy with the cake has been sitting in my basement at 73°. The left over liquid is crystal clear and it smells fine. Can I toss a new batch in or should I toss it? Thanks...

What's the goober things at the bottom of the jar? I pressure cooked wort for future starters. Boiled water, cac03, yeast nutrients, ferm cap then pressure cooked. Thanks in advance.

    Rating the recipes on HBT

Searched but didn't find the answer. Is there any way to setup a rating system for the recipes in the recipe database on HBT? This way, we can brew based on the rating instead of going through the many replies to see if a recipe is worth brewing. Thanks for viewing.

    flaming lips

How necessary is it to flame the flask and bottle lips for the purpose of starters and yeast management? I've read some people just starsan. Also is it a good practice to reactivate the yeast I have stored in jars every so often? Thanks I'm advance.

    Is this normal looking?

Made a 1800ml starter for london ale 1028 that ran for 18 hours and dumped it in after my wort dropped to 68. The question is, why is it at the bottom of the fermenter? Is that yeast? Is this normal behavior? Thanks..

dry hoppin with whole hops and liquid loss.

Hi all. Tried searching on this topic and didn't find my answer. My last orange cascade ale, I dry hopped with about 1 oz of cascade leaf hops and noticed how much liquid I lost to the hop leaves. Is it better to just use pellets for this reason? Thanks in advance.

    swingtop quality differences

I noticed the metal swingtop from the midwestsupplies.com corrode when I soak it in oxyclean and starsan. The metal becomes white-ish and starts flaking off. However I don't experience this on the real grolsch bottles. Anyone else experience this?

    siphoning is easy...

So walk into the laundry room to water all over the place. I unhooked the hose and was filling the utility tub to clean bottles. Draped both ends of the hose in the tub. The one end drops out and starts siphoning the tub water onto the floor. So its that effortless to start a siphon.

    happy wife = success

How many would agree with this? Wife seems to have no issues with my new hobby/obsession now that I make an orange ale she really likes. Thanks for all the valuable information on the forum.
