    Heading to El Paso TX

Stopped by El Paso Home Brewing Supply today. Brian was a great help and really friendly guy. He's got a lot of good ideas for the store and really good prices. Highly recommend this place! Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Heading to El Paso TX

I stopped by Reliance a few days ago on one of my thousand trips to the recycle center to get rid of boxes. Looks like they have basic supplies if you need a run-of-the-mill ingredient (2-row, cascade hops...) nothing fancy, but enough to keep you going. They also have a sheet to write in...

    Heading to El Paso TX

Good to know since I used most of my ingredients on my last brew in VA. Will definitely stop by to restock when I get there. Thanks! Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    Heading to El Paso TX

Looks like I'll be moving to El Paso shortly and am also trying to find brew stores. Currently live near Newport News and the places here are also slim, but adequate. Would be nice to have places I got spoiled on while living near Olympia, WA. If anyone has recent knowledge on what's open, I'd...

Fermentation Chamber Built...now how to manage temperature (STC-1000)

I've got a setup very similar. Run the probe and cable for a heating element through a small drilled hole sealed with clay. Velcro'ed the project box to the top of the chamber. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    Carboys Glass vs Plastic

Stupid on my part, but putting hot wort in a Better Bottle will result in the top caving in. Another reason for me to go back to the plastic bucket.

    Better Bottle Stopper

When I used a better bottle, I used a cap/hood and kept it in place with a worm gear clamp. Another reason I went back to buckets.

Infrared USB camera in ferm chamber?

    Beer porn at its finest.

Heady Topper clone - Maltose Express

Read about this one today. I'm interested in the recipe as well.

Can a minifridge lose its freon?

Mine had several spots that were covered in an oily film. Looked like it had leaked from one spot and possibly dripped to lower spots. Not thick like vasoline though.

Can a minifridge lose its freon?

Are there any oily spots? I got a wine chiller from CL that had the same problem. Compressor got really hot, no cooling inside. Had a leak somewhere. Was a really nice looking box with not much use.

    Kegged beer will not carbonate!

Ran Starsan through it, but didn't tear it down prior to first use. Lesson learned.

    Kegged beer will not carbonate!

And the solution...dirty taps! The picnic faucets worked, which narrowed it down to the taps - either the temperature differential or something else. I took them apart, cleaned them, reinstalled, hooked up and bingo. Have not had a problem since. Guess you shouldn't expect them to come from...

Theory idea on pipeline and wort storage

I don't feel the need to do this. The question was purely academic and hypothetical. Give the conditions of (1) your kegerator is full of beer, (2) you have a full ferm chamber (mandatory that you use the ferm chamber), (3) you have a week or so off of work to brew all you want (4) no other...

Theory idea on pipeline and wort storage

Not that I have any intent on trying this (usually brew once every two months to keep beer in the pipeline). Just a theory that we came up with off the cuff. But it would be nice if I had the time and storage to have a few "off the shelf" worts ready to go. This all stemmed from my build of a...

Theory idea on pipeline and wort storage

Just a theory I was discussing with some friends. Would it be possible to brew a few different types of wort (hefe, IPA, and wit for example) and before pitching the yeast, store them in a sanitized carboy or bucket and keep them indefinitely until your pipeline is ready. Then pitch the yeast...

    Kegerator produces all foam

I battled this problem for (literally) two years. I tried longer lines. No luck. Natural carbing rather than force. No luck. Finally after much frustration went back to bottling. Got tired of that and tried to give it another shot. My kegerator is in the garage. I thought it might be the temp...

    DIY Temp Controller

Nothing against Ranco or Johnson controllers, but if you can wire one of those, you can wIre an STC. Plus you will have a dual stage rather than single stage.

Virginia Ranco ETC-111000 Single Stage Temperature Controller - Wired

As far as it's accuracy - if you mean how many degrees is it from a specific point - I've never had it calibrated, so I'd assume that it is accurate. It operates between -30 and +220 with a differential of 1 to 30 degrees. I can say that i've used it to control a freezer for cold crashing and...
