Cannot find a deep enough enclosure

I'm building a fermentation temp controller with 2 stc-1000's (actually these might be the inkbird version), 2 switches and 2 indicators. My issue is the din rail 12 v power supply I bought is taller than the stc-1000 so I need a box (preferably plastic) that is maybe 5 or 6 inches deep. I've...

Plate chiller baking for maintenance reasons

Been searching around and seems like a lot of people bake their chillers, but some people are saying that this could possibly bake on some crap and render the thing useless (for sanitary reasons). I have a few years worth of brewing through my Duda diesel and wonder if I should actually give...

I am selling 2 electric heating element enclosures or Element gaurds as Still Dragon calls them. They are the 2 inch tri clamp versions. Used only a handful of times. Asking $30 each or $50 for the pair. Thanks, Virg

Sabco bright tank head pressure gauge

I want to install a head pressure gauge into my bright. Sabco sells a gauge that you can install onto the sanke coupler. I was wondering if it would still work with the co2 back flow preventer on the coupler in place, and if not couldn't beer come back up into the gauge?

    Passivating my kettles

Been doing a bunch of searching and about to try it, but just wanted to see what people thought of my procedure. All kettles have been cleaned with tsp, bkf and pbw (in no particular order). 1. Fill the hlt with a few gallons of water and heat to about 150, add citric acid to make a 5%...

    Rotating spray ball pump

I am looking for an alternative to using a sump pump to run my brewershardway rotating spray ball (1/2 female threaded one), I'm kinda nervous the heat and chemicals will let the oil out. So was looking at this harbor freight pump, has anyone used this or, or can see any reason that it would be...

PVC pipe for water supply to HLT

Hi All, Is it okay to use regular white pvc pipe to feed my HLT? In my new brewing space there is an existing pvc cold water pipe that feeds an aquarium chiller in the next room that I can easily tap off of and run through my filters to my HLT without much work. If I have to run copper all...

GFCI breaker in panel vs spa panel

I plan on running a 100 Amp sub panel approximately 100 feet from the main panel. Would I be better off using a 100A GFCI breaker in the main panel feeding the sub panel or use a normal breaker and set up 2 50A spa panels to feed my control boxes after the sub panel? Does the long distance...

    Hood fan suggestions

I have a little side project going that I wanted some input on. The brewhouse is a 55 gal HLT, a 55 gal MLT and 100 gal Kettle, all electric. I got a great deal on an ss hood that fits over the top of all of them (9' long x 4' wide x 2' tall) and now I need a way to pull out the steam. I saw a...

    2, 240V elements, 1 PID controller

As the title states, I am building a control box and need to run 2 elements at the same time off of 1 PID. Each element will have its own SSR and contactor. I did see one of PJ's schematics that did something similar, but with 120V elements. My question is, is it better to run Line 1 through...

    Tap tower in new kitchen

Been searching around, but wanted some more current advise/comments. We are having our kitchen renovated and on one of the walls I am putting a small wet bar area. I am basically going to have a 36 in sink base cabinet with a small sink and a 3 faucet tap tower next to it (2 beer, 1 soda...

Protecting yeast starter while in keezer

I made a 3L yeast started this past Wednesday night for a 10 gallon batch I planned on brewing yesterday (sat). Looks like now I might not be able to brew until middle of the week or even later so, for the first time, I will need to store this in my keezer. I have a foam stopper in the 5L...

    Is this safe for hlt?

I was thinking of buying this valve to fill my HLT. I know it says "not food safe at the bottom", but since it will be cold water going through it, then that water will be boiled, I was hoping it might be okay? What do you think? https://www.adafruit.com/products/997 Thanks

Changing up my Xmas beer, ditch the maltodextrin?

Started brewing this beer while doing extract, have since moved to allgrain, but left the maltodextrin in the recipe. I do mash this on the high side, but is it enough to get rid of the maltodextrin all together? I use 16oz in 10 gal of 1.072 sg. I wasn't super happy with this beer last year...

Still have krausen after 10 days

I brewed a 10 gallon batch of a blonde ale 10 days ago using US 05, o.g.= 1.053 (should have been 1.047). I checked on it tonight, but when I opened the top, it had quite a bit of krausen still, I need to keg it in the next few days so I hope finishes soon. My estimated f.g. (according to...

    Speed up carbing

Hi, I kegged an IPA last Sat, I typically use the "set it and forget it method", so I set the pressure to 30 psi, purged out the o2 and turned the pressure down to about 12 psi and let sit in the keezer. I though I had about 2 weeks before I needed this beer, but found out I will be pouring it...

About to send a sample to Ward labs

I apologize if my questions were already stated somewhere here, but I just want to make sure. First of all, which test is best for me, I live in Chicago and I plan on running the sample through my carbon filters that I use when brewing and into one of those small flask shaped vodka bottles...

Which Coleman 70 QT for mash tun

I currently use a 52 QT (rectangular) cooler now and it works great, but I seem to always run out of room when batch sparging my 10 gal batches, so I want to upgrade to a 70 QT. The cooler 1 has over 243 reviews (4.5 of 5 stars), and cooler 2 only has 16 (4 of 5 stars). Cooler 1 is only...
