MagicChef 6.9 cu ft collar keezer build

It easily holds the 3 AEB ball locks that I have with room to spare with the co2 tank on the compressor hump. There's a possibility I could squeeze a 4th in but I think it would be really tight. No question that a short 2.5 gallon keg could fit on the hump with the co2 tank.

MagicChef 6.9 cu ft collar keezer build

Figured I would post my keezer build. I went with the MagicChef 6.9 cu ft freezer from Home Depot when it went on sale for $169. Materials used: 2 pieces of 2" x 6" x 8' douglas fir for the collar = $16.98 1 piece of 3/4" x 7 1/4" x 8' white pvc board to wrap the collar and secure it to the...

American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

Brewed this back on January 21. I subbed out 2 ounces of Cascade for Citra and used the 1 oz of Citra in lieu of the 1 minute addition and in lieu of 1 oz of the Cascade dry hop. Dry hopped after 5 days in the fermenter after pitching US-05. Kegged on 2/10. Drew a pint tonight and while it's...

engineering help needed for siphoning project

What he said. Unroll your hose. Turn on the water at your spigot. When water comes out the other end, drop that end into your pool. Tie a weight to it so it stays near the bottom. Turn off the spigot and remove the hose from the spigot. Drop that end on the ground. Water will flow...

First BIAB and first All Grain in progress now...

Thought an update was in order. I bottled today. FG was 1.01 so ABV will be around 4%. I missed OG coming in at 1.041 vs 1.051 which I think was due to my crush on the grain. This will be a "sessionable" oatmeal stout. Lot's of trub but a cold crash settled it right out. I used...

NY Times story about hidden lagering vaults in Brooklyn

Thought this article might interest some. Some excavation recently uncovered some long forgotten lagering vaults from a long defunct brewery in Brooklyn. NY times article photos

    Cold crash, air lock sucking

Is there any reason you couldn't remove the cap in a 3 piece airlock and stretch a balloon over the top. Then fill the airlock from the bottom with Co2 to inflate the balloon. Quickly replace the airlock in your carboy/ale pail and you now have a balloon full of Co2 so any suck back draws in...

First BIAB and first All Grain in progress now...

Sorry I missed this earlier. I have nothing to compare the wilser bag to. That said it seems to be a well made, well thought out product. The drawstring held the bag securely to the kettle - the steamer ring on the bayou kettle seems like it was made just for that reason. The shape of...

First BIAB and first All Grain in progress now...

All done. Missed OG by quite a bit. 1.041 vs 1.054. Oh well it will be beer in a few weeks. I'm guessing the crush wasn't fine enough. When I bought the grains there were a few folks waiting to buy grain also so I didn't bother to ask my LHBS to double grind. I guess there's a corona...

I did not measure preboil volume or gravity. I will add that to the process next brew day.

So the big squeeze has come and gone - the bbq gloves came in handy. I didn't check volume at this point. Just waiting for it to come to a boil for the hops additions. After an hour my mash temp dropped from 155 to 148. I think that will be okay if I understand correctly most conversion...

First BIAB and first All Grain in progress now...

So after reading the forums here and elsewhere for months and slowly acquiring some equipment I finally took the plunge. Grabbed the bayou classic 44qt ss kettle on special from amazon followed by a bayou sq14 burner and a wilser bag over the last 2 or 3 months. Using the priceless biab...

Why does all Samuel Adams Beer Taste Bad?

I enjoy the Sam Boston Lager and Rebel IPA. Recently had their Hopscape and enjoyed that as well. Can't bring myself to try their cherry wheat.

    Broken bottle

Are you cleaning your bottles before sanitizing them? If someone drank that Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and then set it aside without rinsing it out with water right away, it's entirely likely there is some beer gunk dried on the inside of the bottle. Getting the gunk out will require a soak in...

Tomorrow is Bottle Day - FIRST EVER!

I've only bottled 2 5 gallon batches so far. I use the spring loaded bottling wand that I attach to the spigot with a short piece of vinyl tubing. I put a chair on top of my picnic table and the bottling bucket goes on top of the chair. That leaves the bottling wand at a height that doesn't...
