I had intended to build my own frig controller but work too many hours lately. Just tapped out last beer and just want to get brewing asap. Anyone here try the Auber 2 stage controller? Would be nice to have for Winter too.

What's the secret to getting ball valves or elbows to line up in the direction you want? I've tried using lots of thread tape but can't seem to get it lined up right. I tried searching and didn't really find anything.

I really like these punches over a step bit but the 13/16" size doesn't work for bulkheads from Brewers Hardware. I've tried to find a 7/8" with no luck. At least one for stainless. Did find one for mild steel. Anyone else try to find that size?

Brewed for the first time with my 120v 2000w electric HLT last weekend. However, there was rust completely covering the threads of the element and locknut, and it dripped onto the kettle and made a little rust puddle about 3" wide. I thought surely it was the element (stainless) threads but...

Picked up an Update International 10g pot at a small local supplier. Never thought to leak test the pot before I put holes in it. Doh! No chance of returning it now. I guess some food grade silicone is in order unless someone has a better idea. Lesson: Test toys before tinkering with them.

How far from the end of the tubing should the ferrules sit? Also I am assuming it is ok to disconnect/reconnect the coil from time to time?

My eHLT kettle is almost complete. I was going to put in a custom 1/2" 45 ft coil from Stainless Brewing, but I am starting to wonder if that's overkill vs. 25 feet. I would think the wort would reach temp within 25 feet of run and it may actually be better as the wort would go through the coil...

My understanding is that AC fluctuates and can vary slightly. If a 2000 watt heater for 120 volts pulls 16.6 amps, does it pull more amps to maintain watts if the voltage drops to say 110 volts? Do some of you run 2000w on a 20 amp circuit? It's close to the 80% threshold.

If one were to ferment 1-2 weeks at 70 F, and then secondary 2-4 weeks at 60 F, does it make a difference as opposed to secondary at 70 F?
