    dry hop in keg? Problems?

Sigh. I can't search for words that are smaller than 4 letters. Dry. Hop. in. Keg. 3 letters or less. So please forgive me if this has been covered other places. Anyway, I read that someone had dryhopped in the keg, using a 3" stainless steel ball hooked around the feed tubefor the beer, so...

Oops! -or- Mistakes you made when you knew better.

I brewed up my first partial mash of the new house and I'm fermenting in a carboy. I've never done primary fermentation in a carboy. I usually use my bottling bucket, but I thought what the heck. Now I remember WHY I don't ferment in carboys. There really isn't enough headspace in a 5 gallon...

    Back from Seattle Area

Hey all. Sortof a re-introduction here. I've been brewing for 2 years or so, but I took about a year off and just started back up. I had to take time off becuase we were selling our last place, and houses don't sell very well if there's beer fermenting all over the place. Happy to say my new...

    Brass fittings on Mash Tun?

Hey guys, I'm brewing up an IPA this weekend and I've noticed that the brass valve and fittings that I have on my MLT have some corrosion on them, like they're tarnished. Has anyone had instances of this causing off flavors in beer? I'm wondering if I should upgrade to Stainless before saturday....

Belgian Beer to Celebrate the Belgian Grand Prix

So we discovered a new beer/wine store about 20 minutes from our house, and oddly enough I used to work with the owner a number of years ago. Anyway, they have a great selection, huge belgian selection, a whole fridge of lambics, and a really fantastic american selection (even plenty of asian...

    weirdest krausen I've seen yet.

This is after 2 weeks in the primary, usually krausen has fallen by then, but these thick slabs of krausen were floating in the top of my beer. Just thought I'd snap a pic and show you guys. Beer tasted great and is now in the secondary, started bubbling a little bit after I racked it, probably...

DFH 60: LHBS didn't have Warrior; went with Columbus

I went to brew a PM version of the DFH 60 Minute recipe thats in "Extreme Brewing" by none other than DFH's Sam Calagione. The recipe calls for 1.5oz of hops spread out over 60 minutes. .5oz each of Warrior, Simcoe, and Amarillo Gold. my LHBS doesn't have warrior so I went with columbus...

Is this chest freezer big enough for 2 cornies?

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/hsh/364705967.html I'm wondering if this size of chest freezer is adequate enough to hold 2 cornies, a CO2 tank and all plubming pretty easily. I'd also like to keep other beers in there if there's extra room, but this will primarily be a kegerator. Anyone...

Ever feel close to giving up?? OR Has your beer always been good??

Guys, I just wanted to share with you. I was getting really depressed with my brews and was pretty close to just giving up and going back to commercial craft brews recently. Until yesterday, to date, I'd had 1 successful batch, my 5th. It was good beer, a beer that I'd be pretty happy with if...

    My Fermentation 'closet'

The only free room we had was SWMBO's shower. She can use mine :)

    Ahh... :)

Just had to share. Its a beautiful late may sunset that I can see from my chair on my patio while I'm about 15 minutes into my boil of the_bird's Murder in the Red Barn. I've got a cold beer next to me and good music playing. Nothing to complain about in the world. :) word to weeknight...

    Finally, it tastes like beer.

Finally! Something I made tastes like BEER. I cracked my IPA after 2 weeks in the bottle and I am floored with how good this beer tastes. Absolutely floored, and absolutely delighted. Beer #1 - Red Ale. Sucked. Burned the extract, not enough hops, too malty. Beer #2 - Copper Ale. Decent...

    Fermentation Temps

Normally I keep my beers in my unused upstairs bathroom tub that seems to stay at about 68-70 degrees. However we've had a few warm days and the temps got up to about 74 for 2 days in a row. How does the warmer temp effect beer in different stages? I've heard that a fruity taste can come from...

    Weird Dry Hopping Experience...

So I dryhopped my IPA last weekend with an ounce of cascade pellets. I put them in a little mueslin bag and put two smooth (sanitized) stones in the bag with the hops and put them through the neck of the carboy where they sunk to the bottom. There they stayed until last night. I got home...

PM: Couldn't get a grainbed to form... husks in my wort.

I'm 17 minutes into the boil of my amber ale, and I just dipped my spoon into the wort, and I saw a bunch of sediment on the spoon. I couldn't get a good grainbed to form when I was mashing, there isn't a ton in there, but definately some husks made it through my SS braid. Anyone got a beer...

Who's Brewing This Weekend? (and what?) 4-28/29

I didn't see another thread about this weekend so I hope I'm not doubling up here. I'm cranking up Modest Mouse's latest and brewing a Manny's Pale Ale clone courtesty of Brewtopia who hooked me up with a pretty right on sounding clone recipe of one of SWMBO's favorite beers. I'm about 17...

Partial Mash + Late Extract Additions = NO MORE TWANG!

Gentlemen and Ladies of HBT! I write to you today with great joy and abundant pleasure to report that my partial mash brew (5.25lb total grain bill), including a late malt extract addition (15 min left in boil) was bottled quite recently, and, upon performing a taste test, I was greeted by the...

I'd ask for input on this IPA recipe...

but I already brewed it, so I'll have to let you guys know later on. I had a bunch of leftover hops in my freezer from previous brews, I've wanted to make an IPA for a while, as its my favorite beer, but I hadn't gotten around to trying a recipe yet. Let me know how you think this is going to...

I don't think I aerated enough... anything that can be done after pitching?

I brewed a mac & jack's clone yesterday, partial mash full boil. 75 minute boil. I topped off with probably 3/4gal of water to get just above 5gallons of wort post boil. I have a spigot on my brew kettle and I opened it up and held a strainer over my primary (ale pale) and the splashing down...
