    Uh oh...which rhizome is which?

So my new mother in law decided to transplant the hops that were growing at her house into my yard last summer. This is all gravy...except she forgot which one she put where. Is there any way of telling the varieties without having them tested?

i know this topic has been exhausted throughout the brewing forums, but I haven't hear much advice/talk about #7 plastic. My wife bought some cheap three gallon water bottles from target for four bucks a bottle. The bottom says for water use only. My thought is....although most people say to...

    Funny fermentation stories...

Everytime I let my dog out to use the outdoor restroom, I check on my fermenting beers and watch them bubble for a few minutes. Well last night I checked the bubblin action....woke up this morning and did the same thing, but realized that I left the deep freezer lid open. Luckily my warming pad...

    Growing Hops

I got an email, but it was just basically a confirmation that they received my request. I'm guessing that if they do send out the hops they will either send an email or contact you by phone to ask you about your "research" !?!

    Washed yeast....1st time....bubble jones....

Yes sorry that was a typo on my part. Are you from the area? What I meant by trusting harvested yeast is that as long as your sanitation practices are good and you got good results (I.e short lag time, proper attenuation etc) than you know you have a great strain of healthy yeast. I'm not saying...

Yet another complaint thread about a malfuntioning refractometer!!!

I used distilled water and it read zero as well so I am not convinced by all the comments that distilled water must be used.

    Washed yeast....1st time....bubble jones....

Well good to hear. My local shop is too far away but it's only logical if homebrewers have the knowledge and resources to harvest and re-use yeast for a few generations. I would trust these yeast over a vial of "new" yeast any day.

    Washed yeast....1st time....bubble jones....

How are the gas prices up there? It might be cheaper to drive the hour there instead of paying the shipping costs. Just a thought...but I'm sure that has already crossed your mind.

Of u think u will make brewing a permanent hobby than I think it is well worth the money to invest in a brewing program. I use promash and find that it makes life alot easier...even for new brewers.

    Harvesting, Re-pitching & Washing

Thats a good way to put it and reassuring as well! Does your name imply you work at an air force base?

    Harvesting, Re-pitching & Washing

My yeast that was washed and pitched has still yet to start bubbling. I pitched a lil more than what the calculator said as well. With that being said there is a nice layer o white krausen sitting on top of the beer... A good sign but I am still a little concerned with the lag time.

Yet another complaint thread about a malfuntioning refractometer!!!

So if u didn't see any difference when calibrating then why use distiller water....?
