    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

Would anybody be so kind as to critique my plan on getting my anvil on a 240v circuit? Still a couple weeks off of brewing again so I have some time and haven't checked everything out yet. Planning on the laundry room, using the washing machine water line for chilling water and running the used...

    ANVIL FOUNDRY ALL-GRAIN BREWING SYSTEM

did my first brew on my new 10.5 yesterday. Easy Peasy brew day. Terrible efficiency that I need to sort out. Used grain that might have been 6 years old (not going to add up how much MO I used in the past 6 years to figure out when I bought it, though it was in a gamma sealed bucket), used...

My bottles hiss but very low carb

Conditioning temp? And give it at least 3 weeks. There's a great post by Revvy somewhere in this forum's history but google couldn't find it with a couple of quick searches and I'm kind of lazy so gave up. But there's lots of factors that can be different from your previous 4 batches. DIPA high...

    Zero carbonation after 3 weeks?

Looks Tasty! Re-reading I see the things I missed-porter, 4 oz sugar-a style you generally (at least me) don't want that carbonic bite + sugar for ~2.4 vol. Give the rest of the batch a week someplace a bit warmer and a couple days in the fridge before drinking and I bet your golden.

Fermented wort tastes like raw, yeasty bread dough

I've got limited experience with it but BRY 97 is on my list of avoid if I can yeasts. Slow to start & slow to finish & drop in my opinion. Always worried about possible wilds taking over while waiting for it to take off, then needing to wait to package after fermentation complete. Cleaner...

    Zero carbonation after 3 weeks?

Physics to a degree. CO2 more soluble in cold liquids, but still have to deal with difference in pressures for the CO2 in the headspace to be forced into solution. Liquid doesn't cool that quickly simply by being surrounded by cooler air, and the lower the difference in pressure the slower CO2...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you've been short on time for the last 18 months, you want to experiment with a 15 minute boil extract batch, and pressure canned starter wort becomes an ingredient to add some more developed malt flavors

Burnt sugar smell from Belgian blonde

The big thing is nothing to do but let it ride at this point. I think 1 lb of sugar would be hard to scorch in a full boil. Though I've got to ask does it seem more burnt or caramelized/cooked? Burnt I'm thinking charred and acrid, caramelized i'm thinking having a richness and different kind of...

Not impressed with my immersion chiller...

didn't read whole thread, my method is chill to about 90f-100f with just hosewater and occasionally moving around chiller to mix up wort/get it to a more equivalent overall temp, then put output tube into a tub with 4-8 pounds of ice. After I have a few gallons in the tub I put my kettle in the...

This Really Annoys Me Pet Peeve Thread

Wiper blades! I can't even find somebody from China selling replacement rubber (finally measured and searching after a bottle of mead) that I can use in the factory housing for my car. Why do I need, for decent quality, to pay $12-20/wiper when all I really need to replace is $0.15-$0.20 worth...

Confession time: would you buy the beer(s) you have brewed in a bar?

<mindless typing> Depends on cost..I've made a couple that I'd pay $4 for a pint. Gotta look at the math. I'm a small spender, $10 for a 2 hour movie is a waste of time for me. I'd rather spend $5 for a day at a state park or $20 for a day at a renn fest than $10-$100+ for an hour of more...

    Musical conflict

Two Shows One Night :(. On one hand a bunch of bands I don't care about, venue I hate, one band I love, hard rock, get to teach some prepubescents how we used to mosh, $10 swill macrolager, walking distance (I have range) Other hand is two artists I really like, more relaxed style for a...

Is my beer supposed to look like this?

Not necessarily, the pessimist in me says probably, but I have a couple thoughts of why you might be able to hold out some hope. We need more information. What was your original gravity, and what was your specific gravity tonight? Have you taken any other gravity measurements? This will give...

Is my beer supposed to look like this?

need more info prefermentation? postfermentation? Why mason jars? I'm guessing bottling day with the corn sugar there, in which case it is pretty cloudy by my standards. And mason jars aren't safe for bottling. How long did you allow it to ferment? Original gravity and current gravity? Has the...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Thanksgiving Amber with a couple deviations from my normal brew process leading to near disaster 6 gallons instead of 5.5 so I can keg 3 for the holiday and bottle the other 3, smaller aluminum pot because it's cold and windy outside and I can heat/cool it quicker as well as clean it inside...
