    Revisiting the Summer Shandy idea

I'm drinking some of it now and to me it has a strong flavor resembling Squirt the soda. I doubt Leinenkugal uses Squirt but I think I will use some when I try to create a clone. also, Leinenkugal does use honey, and you can taste it in the undertones. Unless I find a better clone recipe my...

How Much Money Is There To Be Saved?

I think it is hypothetically possible to save money brewing beer, and here are some suggestions how to do so. Equipment - keep an eye on craigslist, ebay, or a local homebrew club. If you can buy second hand equipment from someone who is quitting or upgrading for a good price it is likely that...

    taking suggestions for yeast

I'm lucky to have a counter in the basement which seems to always be about 64 degrees. Moving into summer that may be a problem though. Pitch Rate ? I've been putting one packet of yeast per bucket, the buckets got 3.75 gallons wort each.

    taking suggestions for yeast

here's the recipe, sorry it is not in the usual format on these forums. I also have little reminders in it for dummy (me) so I don't forget stuff. lol. I guess what I am going for is a fairly simple ale, along the lines of a Newcastle. well balanced, not overly hoppy or complex tasting...

    taking suggestions for yeast

I was thinking of Wyeast or White Labs. I wasn't commited to the dry yeast, it just seemed like a cheap way to get started. This fermentis looks very interesting though ! I hadn't heard of it. Thanks for the tips. It is fun to experiment, I haven't made anything that would win awards yet...

    taking suggestions for yeast

I've been brewing using Weiss amber LME. Three batches each one adjusting the hops. I'm fairly happy with the hops now. Next batch I'd like to try four different yeasts. (I have 4 fermenters, 15 gallon batches) What would you suggest ? I've just been using Munton's ale yeast so far. I...

    time to bottle ?

thanks for the tips, I really don't have a secondary. lol, but I guess I could siphon the buckets back into my keggle. go dump the trub on my garden, clean the buckets, and refill ? maybe sample a glass or two in the process and try to bottle in a week or two ?

    time to bottle ?

I may drink some out of the bucket, but I prefer it carbonated. Also, I don't think it's wise to remove the lids (thereby reintroducing oxygen and any bacteria floating around) any more than necessary. I've never attempted secondary fermentation before, but maybe this would be a good time to...

    time to bottle ?

I have 4 buckets which I made three weeks ago. I was planning to bottle this weekend but 2 buckets are still bubbling slowly. I am an over the road truck driver so I haven't been here much to monitor the fermentation. all the buckets were prepared in the same manner an all had begun bubbling...

    predictions ??

very well, it's water for me here on out. I'll be very happy with a boring, drinkable beer out of this. But just the same I think I'll try to follow recipe's from now on. Sounds like I can justify the kegerator and korney keg set up then.

    predictions ??

I'm interested if anyone has any predictions what this beer I made today may taste like ? It's okay to say if you think it will be crappy, but if you could be a little more descriptive it would be helpful too. I am after all posting in beginner. What happened was I had bought a bunch of LME...
