Goofy OLY-052 (vermont conan yeast) fermentation

Not really worried, just curious. I recently brewed up a simple pale ale (recipe at the bottom) with the Omega DIPA, conan, yeast strain and have been getting some strange fermentation results . I started the fermentation temp at 64F, noticeable fermentation started around hour 12 and thick...

    Force carb vs natural carb?

I want to do a nice sized RIS that I can put some age on. I was wondering what the best method of carbonation is for long term storage. Is force carbing in a keg then bottling ok or should I natural carb with priming sugar in the keg then bottle?

Double IPA Multantes Vindice Manu Dei (Vengeful Hand of God)

Brewed for a good friend for his wedding reception but we decided such a huge brew was probably not going to be enjoyed or appreciated by regular beer drinkers. He wanted a big beer for less than $100 and this is what I came up with. 13 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM)...

    American IPA Phantom Cosmonaut IPA

A year ago I decided to spent a few bucks on some 4oz hop packs from Farmhouse. Blaa blaa blaa, I had leftover hop packs I needed to get rid of so I made an impromptu IPA from what was around and ended up with a staple for my IPA malt bill. Here's what I came up with. 10 lbs Pale...

Does a decoction mash of pilsner malt drive off DMS or should a 90 min boil still be employed?

    Summit Vs. Stella (Ella) hops

In the grapefruit department who wins this battle? I like the idea of the over the top heavy hit of Summit but I don't like the onion/garlic aspect that can come along with it. I don't have much experience with Stella hops but what I've read is that in heavy use it can impart a...

    Possible underwatering or under fertilizing?

About 5 ft up my 3yr old hops my side arms are getting brown and snapping off. They are only about 1/4" long atm. The leaves look great, nice green color, from 5ft and up I have very nice side arms with tons of burs. Could this just be from the nutrients shifting up to the producing burs or...

    Over the top and hops.

Is an over the top herbicide OK to use for adequate grass removal around hops? Bottle states that it is safe for ornamentals.

    How many bines per line?

Got a few 3 year hops on a V trellis system. How many bines per line are recommended. I was thinking 3-4, making it 6-8 per plant, would be sufficient since they are 3 years but I'd like to get a more experienced opinion. Last year I think I did too many plus the drought w/ lack of drip...

    White Labs yeast question.

Picked up two vials of WLP530 for a Belgian Pale Ale i plan on doing Dec 8th. One vial (Feb) is a greyish color and the other (Jan) is a cream color. Do these yeasts generally vary in color from batch to batch?

New manifold done and ready for sparging!

Got sick and tired of stuck sparges, fluctuating efficiency, and crappy vorlaufing due to mash paddle abuse to the braided line so I decided to build a manifold! Joints are cpvc and the tubes are rated up yo 180°F.
