Adding Cold Water to Wort...Big Mistake?

Your beer will be fine, many people top off with their tap water without boiling it first. As long as you don't have nasty tap water you will be fine.

My first lager: One packet of yeast or two?

A smack pack still needs a starter to be most effective, at least that's what the instructions on the smack pack recommend.

    AHS Blue Moon Clone Question

Howdy, I've searched around to see if I could find answers to these two questions but could not find anything the addressed it. I'm going to be brewing the Blue Moon Extract this weekend but directions were a bit confusing. 1. Is the total boil time for this brew only 30 minutes? Every...

    Stout Additions

So far everything I have read indicates that chocolate needs to be added either at the last 15 minutes of the boil or at flame out. My biggest concern about adding it at bottling is that chocolate contains sugar and would give the yeast something more to eat while sitting in the bottle...

    question about adding chocolate/coffee

I see, thanks for the info and I think I'll try to let it sit in the primary for another week and then probably add the coffee when I bottle.

how long do you let your ales frement for?

This is so true, my first brew I made a Belgian IPA, sat in the fermentor for 2 weeks before bottling and then I screwed up when bottling by adding my priming sugar to my fermentor instead of the bottle bucket and proceeded to stir the hell out of the beer. This of course got all of the trub...

    Removing ALL yeast

Slightly off topic but I did not want to create yet another cold crashing thread but I could not find my answer in the others thread. If you cold crash and most of the yeast of fall out of suspension how will this effect the bottling/carbing of the beer? I want to cold crash my next beer but...

    AHS Magic Hat #9 Clone

Hi, Just had a quick question for any one who has brewed the Magic Hat #9 clone from AHS. At what point to do you add the Apricot Flavoring? The directions seem to indicate that it would bee added at time of bottling, should I just add it to the bottling bucket with the priming sugar and...

Visiting DC...send me to a good bar!

Brickstellar is a great place but I believe it's under a new name now but still has a large selection of beers on tap. If you are just looking for a pure entertainment bar I would suggest Palace of Wonders, it's set up like an old style Carnival side show and oddities Museum, they also have...

Question About Bottle Conditioning And Taste

You should check out this thread https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/over-carbonated-botle-problem-217305/ which I made last night, there is a great video link in the second post that shows a time lapse of bottle conditioning and the changes that take place over a 31 day period. If I knew...

    Over carbonated or botle problem?

Hi, First I have to say this is a fantastic website that I have learned a lot from. So I'm currently on my 3rd brew using an ail pail, The first two were pretty decent but this third one seems to be causing some problems. On Saturday I bottled my Belgian IPA which I got from Midwest...
