    Show us your Kegerator

I just got a pair of the dual-insert magnetic tap handles from BestBrewTap. Asked for them to be made in Cocobolo, and got exactly what I wanted. The end result is perfect for my 2.5g keg system. Easy to swap inserts out, and they stick to the front of the fridge.

Will the beer absorb all the CO2 if you only gas it once?

That other part is right. If you want full carbonation, you are probably aiming at more than 2 volumes of CO2. Think of it this way, the volume of CO2 you want in your beer is more than twice the volume of the keg itself under normal atmospheric pressure. There's just not enough headspace to...

    Mini keg question

The real issue is that since the mini-kegs aren't rated for a ton of pressure, force carbonating is really easy to screw up with a mini-keg. They aren't really rated for the pressures that homebrewers use for force carbonation (30psi + rocking, for example) as they are meant to be cheap and...

Should my keg hold pressure disconnected?

CO2 will get absorbed, to the point where things will reach equilibrium. A point where CO2 isn't being drawn out of the liquid, but isn't being forced in. Just from the comments you made, I can't say "Nope, no leak", but you are definitely absorbing some amount of CO2 into the liquid. Someone...

    TAP-A-DRAFT: first impression...

You can, although you'll use up more CO2 that way. I can prime 3+ TAD bottles for the cost of force carbonating 1 TAD bottle. I tend to reserve it for carbonating things like apple cider around the holidays.

    Tap-a-draft question

The main problem I had with mine is that the plastic is fairly fragile, and the pour speed is glacial. But if you can live with that, they do work well enough.

    Newb Keg Setup/Parts Question

Yes. That's why hose clamps are also used. It kinda looks like the plastic bit in the photo around the hose is a clamp.

    Ball Lock Corny Styles

This is something I am glad to hear about. The current crop of Chinese sourced kegs are interesting, but the lack of standard safety certification is what makes me a bit leery of investing in a couple of them. Knowing that there have been some spectacular safety gaffes in the recent past with...

Took an EdgeStar fridge that they use for their kegerators and installed the tower and other parts myself for the same price as the kit. Went this route with the idea that since I am using 2.5g kegs, I could leave a shelf in for bottled beverages. The shelf does bow quite a bit though, so I...

Anyone know a mini fridge that doesnt need any mods?

Depends. If you buy the single tap model, no. And it uses a weird plastic locking mechanism which isn't all that stable. The two/three tap models come with a 3 inch tower that needs to be bolted to the top. You'd need to drill the holes for those bolts, but the fridge is setup so that you can...

Anyone know a mini fridge that doesnt need any mods?

I am putting one of those together right now. It will hold 2 5 gal cornies plus gas on outside or inside, but no more than that. If you want a full kit, Beer Miester is your best bet. Their value line can hold 3 plus gas, and is very similar to the Edgestar in size. They've just done more...

    Secondary Fruit Advice

The cherries will remain at the bottom of the fermenter, even as a puree. The yeast will setup shop on top of them and eat their way down. 6 pounds in a 6.5 gallon carboy sounds perfect. You will want this stuff at room temperature though before you rack onto it. So doing a pasteurization may...

Anyone know if this will work for a two corny Keg setup?

Some folks on the forum have done it, but you will need to modify the door to get clearance I believe.

Using a 3 gallon Better Bottle as my secondary?

I have a couple glass carboys and a better bottle carboy. I actually do the opposite: primary in the better bottle, and move to the glass for secondary. While it should be fine, I prefer to use the glass anytime I need to secondary, which I tend to do for longer period. Also, if you want to...

Advice on a tower for my first kegorator

It's also possible to get the Perlicks for not a whole lot more than the link you posted, although it won't support the site sponsors (and only seems to contain the line, tower, and faucets, and they are chrome): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009AFOKSO/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Party Star Tap vs Edge Star Tap

I'd personally go for the DIY tap route for these. The Party Star isn't really good for long-term use (say, a week in the fridge) due to leaks. The Edge Star tap is meant to be used with their mini-keg sized kegerator, so there's additional cost there. But with the DIY route, you have the...

    Mini kegging

Just avoid the Heineken kegs (and Newcastle) that include their own tap. There is an unremovable plastic CO2 charger inside the keg itself. You want the brands that use kegs with a gravity dispensing tap. Clean them correctly and all you really need is a new bung for the top. What you do from...

Dec 21 2012 Who has Plans???

I think the date accounts for the leap year already. The date of the new b'ak'tun isn't exactly in dispute as far as I understand it.

    Extreme Cider Haze During Fermentation?

I've done a couple cider batches in the last couple years using White Labs English Dry Cider yeast. This year I placed a bulk order of cider from the presser and picked it up to do a couple large batches. Unfortunately I waited too long and it started fermenting in the bottles. I poured them in...

Trying to make a Black Wheat Ale

That's a lot of chocolate malt if you are going for the color. I could be wrong since I'm relatively unfamiliar as well, but if it doesn't impart much flavor on its own, using so much will leave you with a somewhat lacking flavor in the beer itself. And it might lead to a pretty bitter beer...
