Building a house - draft help needed!

Thanks for the response! I probably wasn't super clear in my post - I plan on having both the keezer in the basement but also a brand new separate fridge in the kitchen inside a cabinet to hold two kegs and a CO2 bottle. Having keezer beer on tap in the kitchen would require a ~25' run. Not...

Building a house - draft help needed!

Hey all- SWMBO and I finally decided to build a house. Rather than a wet bar in the basement, we've decided to focus on making the main floor an all-in-one cooking / entertaining area. As a result, while the big keezer will go in the basement, we're going to install a draft tower in the...

    Portable CO2

Hey all - I'm looking for the right solution for dispensing my beer here in a couple months for an outdoor event. I have four ball-lock corny kegs, two will be a hefe and two will be a pale ale, necessitating two taps at once. I will be carbing all four kegs in my keezer. I have a 10# CO2 into a...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale Easy Chimay Blue clone

I brewed this about three months ago and kegged one week ago. It tastes like Chimay but with a bit of prune juice added. I am happy with it but am thinking I didn't get the level of attenuation I wanted. And, no, I was too lazy to get gravity readings :)

    Stuck fermentation?

My hefes often cease significantly active fermentation within 72-96 hours after pitching. Do you have a thief you can use for testing?

Where to get cheap beer kits

Beer kits often include a convenience price. Take the True Brew hefe kit: it costs $36 at my LHBS Materials, if bought individually, are $26 for the extract, $1 for the dry yeast, $1.50 for the hops, $1 for the priming sugar, and $1.50 for the caps, for a total of about $31.

    Always use a blowoff tube!

I would be careful with doing it only on bigger beers - the type of yeast can be the factor that causes the blowout. The biggest beer I've ever fermented, the Chimay blue clone, didn't get close to blowing out. But all my hefes regularly have violent fermentations.

    Always use a blowoff tube!

Could be. I would not be too keen on glass sitting on a bucket, anyhow :)

    Always use a blowoff tube!

Nope, I narrowly avoided disaster. I'm surprised the airlock didn't explode out of the bucket or that the lid didn't blast off.

    Always use a blowoff tube!

I almost learned my lesson the hard way this weekend. I have thought about using a blow-off tube in the past as I've had airlocks fill with krausen, but this was just not good. If you think adding a blow-off tube is hard, it's not. The picture immediately below was posted by Revvy in 2009 and...
