    NEIPA recipe

I don't think there are any commercial NEIPAs available where I am so if I want to try one I may have to brew one myself. I have 4oz of Centennial and Citra as well as 2oz of CRYO Mosaic. What kind of recipe should I make given what I have. (5 gallons)

    Jaded Hydra Width

Can anyone tell me the width on a Jaded Hydra chiller? Want to make sure there's clearance with the dip tube on my kettle

    Bo Pils with Sterling

After seeing Sterling as a good Saaz replacement and even have seen a NHC gold medal czech pils recipe using all Sterling I am going to use it in my own recipe. The Sterling hops I have are 10.5% AA, I know that will affect my bittering addition a lot, how much late hopping would you suggest...

    Bo Pils Question

I love a good Bohemian Pilsner, however my attempt at making one a few years ago fell short, back to try again. When reading I came across this in a BYO article An authentic Pilsner mash should have a pH of about 4.5–4.8, which is significantly lower than the typical recommended range of...

    Czech Pilsner brewing

Just wanted to run this by those with more water chemistry knowledge than I have. I ran some numbers through the EZ water calculator... Started with all RO water, making a 10 gallon batch. Added 4 grams of Calcium Chloride to the mash and 5 to the boil kettle to get 40-50 ppm calcium. Then...

    WLP029 krausen fell early

Anyone ever have an issue with 029 krausen falling early. I brewed monday, pitched a 1L starter of 029 into oxygenated wort and fermented at 65 degrees. There were signs of krausen in the bucket but it's already fallen after 3 days and the beer is only down to 1.030ish. I bumped the dial up...

Lager equivalent of the Chico strain

Is there a lager strain that could be considered equivalent to the Chico ale strain? A lager strain that's very widely used amongst brewers, easy to use, consistent, and works well at a wide temperature range. A go to strain for most any type of clean lager.

    Mini fridge recommendations

Looking to buy a mini fridge to use as a fermentation chamber. I don't have the room for a chest freezer unfortunately but need a mini fridge large enough that I can put a 6.5 gallon bucket with an airlock inside. Ideally it wouldn't need a lot of modification to fit the bucket inside. What...

    Finally getting a temp controller!

Been a long time waiting and have put it off long enough but I'm excited to be able to control my fermentations better. I still only have my kegerator for now, so it will be serving double duty as a fermentation chamber and then kegerator until I have enough space for a small fridge.

    Re-pitch yeast from Pale Ale

I just brewed a Pale Ale using Wyeast 1968 and London ESB and wanted to use that in a hard cider. Any issues going from beer to cider? I know going from cider to beer isn't ideal, don't see why re-pitching ale yeast into cider wouldn't work though. Just wanted to check here first.

Why does harvested yeast need to be used quicker?

Why does harvested yeast need to be used quicker than a pitch you get from wyeast or white labs. I've heard you want to use harvested yeast within 2 weeks for best results and viability decreases rapidly. Why is this different than fresh yeast?

    question about chlorophenols

So yet another batch that looks like I'm going to dump, very frustrating. I brewed a Mirror Pond clone and everything seemed to go well. Used a carbon filter and potassium metabisulfite in my brewing water and tasted my gravity sample 11 days after brewing, beer tasted like it was turning out...

Ever tried to calibrate your thermometer by putting it under your tongue?

I just tried it and it looks like my thermometer may be a degree low. Be careful with it, mine is very sharp and could do some damage in there!

Never been so discouraged about homebrew (need some encouragement)

I have been brewing for over a year and a half now and have probably made 20 or so brews, always thinking the next one will be the one where it will all turnaround. I have turned out sub-par beer again and again and it's really beginning to discourage me. Only 2 of my brews have I considered...

    How cheap can you brew?

I'm wondering who can brew the cheapest. Only factoring in ingredients, so don't bother with factoring in propane and equipment. I'm not buying in bulk yet, will probably order some hops in bulk next season. I saved some when switching to all-grain, but I know there are people brewing much...

Good deal for anyone around Ft. Worth

Was browsing craigslist just to see what was out there and found this. Looks like a good deal for anyone looking to get into all grain brewing. http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/for/3045625215.html

    WLP029 no smell

I used WLP029 last year in a kolsch and it gave off a lot of sulphur/rotton egg kinda smell, however, I just brewed a batch a couple of days ago with this same yeast and am not getting any of those same aromas. The smell from the airlock is really clean and just CO2 and some hop aroma. I used...

    How much soot is normal

My burner is a cheap propane one from Academy, even when I adjust the regulator for the bluest flame possible, I still end up with some soot on the bottom of my kettle after 60+ minutes of burning. Are there any burners that burn totally clean and leave the bottom of the kettle without soot?

    Metallic taste from keg

I think I have a keg issue. I brewed an IPA and put it's been in the keg about 10 days. The first couple of days, the beer was GREAT, I was really excited to have 5 gallons of it, now I'm afraid something with my keg/CO2 has ruined my batch. The flavor is very metallic and leaves the tongue...
