    Imperial oatmeal stout help

I'm attempting to build a recipe to have ready by March so I can pass it out to my groomsmen. I am going for a smooth chewy oatmeal stout which I will add a cinnamon stick to secondary (oatmeal cookie ish). Below is my current recipe. Any advice/criticism is welcome, but I have two main...

    Will excessive vanilla age out?

Hi all. This is thread is half question, half rant. I know the answer will most likely be "wait and see". SWMBO wanted to help bottle my latest beer. It was an imperial brown that was bulk aged for 6 weeks then oaked for 6 days with bourbon soaked chips. Tasted great. On bottling...

    Mango IPA

This was indeed for a 5gal batch. However, I lost a little over a gallon due to absorption and sediment. The frozen cubes (store bought - no preservatives) actually went in at flameout. The OG was right around 1.063. I used the malt bill for a flower power clone found on hopville.com. Fg...

    Mango IPA

I actually forgot about this thread. As the thread originator, I feel a small obligation to post my results especially since so many people offered some fantastic input. I followed the recipe exactly as in the original post, and ended up using a total of 5.5 lb of mango. I used 2lb of...

    Mango IPA

After all your posts, I'm going to buy 8lb of mango in hopes it will land me 5lb of puree in the end. I will be sure to freeze it. I'm not going through the trouble of splitting the batch because either it will not have enough flavor and turn out to be a great citra dryhopped ipa, or it...

    Mango IPA

It is too far to get to my homebrew store just for puree. I'm going to suck it up and use fresh.

    Sharing my first war story

Forget the Lloyd Christmas quote, a brand new up-to-code fire alarm at midnight is the most annoying sound in the world.

    Sharing my first war story

Evening all, As I sit here with no tv due to the weather, I thought I'd share my (almost) tragic story of my second go at homebrewing. I decided to brew a big ol RIS (OG came in right around 1.1) monday night. I decided to up my boil to 4 gal in a 5 gallon pot b/c I was worried about hop...

    Mash temps

I am not necessarily worried about steeping, but I want to work forward towards all grain with each batch I make. I will be brewing big DIPA and RIS styles almost exclusively and don't want to end up with a big sweet mess because I mashed too high. I might give the oven a try. Thanks

Good evening all, I would like some insite as to how you guys can maintain such specific mashing temps on a stove. I had a difficult enough time maintaining 170F just to steep my first batch, and I was watching it like a hawk. any tips? Chad

    Second beer recipe

I need the ambition if I'm going to stay interested in this hobby. I want to brew the styles I like to drink. It just so happens the styles I'm interested in are a little more advanced in their recipes.

    Removing hops from carboy

I'm going to leave it in secondary for about 3 weeks. Won't leaving the dry-hop in that long increase the chances of those grassy tones people always warn about?

    Removing hops from carboy

I have just racked my first batch to secondary and added 1oz whole leaf hops. I used the same type of cheese cloth that comes with beer kits for steeping to hold the hops. What would you guys suggest as the best way to remove this bag after the 10 day-dry hopping period? Maybe it will...

Brew Masters on Discovery w/ Sam Calagione

The move to dump it was genius. Of course they could have sold every last drop of it as a limited edition, and even though I would still buy a bottle of it, I would never forget that they bottled a mistake as a new item. Are they Microsoft or something? They displayed on national...
