    False bottom not working

And how much water did you fill it up with? It must be above the valve or gravity can't do its thing.

    Plate chiller or no?

No I hadn't lost a batch because of it, but I no longer wanted to take that risk. Just couldn't get past the thought of chilled wort running through who knows what at such a crucial time. If my IC takes an extra 10 minutes to chill, but the plate chiller takes an extra 20 minutes to clean...

    Slightly low final gravity

Too many details have been left out to give you an accurate answer. 1. Efficiency does not play a role in FG, it only affects your OG. 2. What was your mash temperature? 3. What yeast did you use? As far as the effects of the lower FG, yes your ABV is slightly higher than expected and the beer...

Best time to pitch from a starter?

You'll find different opinions here, but I prefer to let the yeast settle out so I can decant the starter wort and pitch the slurry.

What Stops You From Going Pro?

Imagine this question for another hobby, like golf. The answer for most people here could easily be that they are just not good enough at all aspects of brewing.

    Bottled Blues............

Ditch the slurries and start with fresh yeast for your next batch. I'd bet you are infecting each batch when you pitch your yeast.
