    Possible fermenter?

Hey guys. In my never ending quest to cheap out on equipment, I saw these 2.5 gallon ice mountain water jugs at the store for $2. Would these be a possible primary fermenter for 1.25 gal batches? Figured i could use the water as well. They are #2 HDPE, and are about the same rigidity of a milk...

    My citric acid mild

I did use ph strips. I tested 5 or so and they didn't change color at all. A lot of reviews I checked on ph strips mentioned that they don't work very well, so I chalked it up to that. I guess a ph meter is my next purchase Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    My citric acid mild

I just brewed a 2.5g mild and according to the brewersfriend calculator, I needed to add 3g of citric acid to my mash to lower my pH. I used citric because that is all my LHBS carried. Now I have a chemically citrusy mild (Hey, I hit all my numbers exactly though!!). I'm sure it was my own...

    Starter or not?

I'm going to brew a mild coming up. 2.5 gal, target OG is 1.039. On brewday, my Wyeast 1469 will be 50 days old. According to sources, it will only be at 65% viability. So I will have 65 billion cells, and my target according to the brewersfriend calculator is 92 billion cells. If I pitch...

    CO2 Bottle Filling In Memphis?

Reviving an old thread. Anyone have any idea on where to refill an O2 tank? I just scored a medical oxygen tank with a nice regulator on it. But it is empty. I know it can be difficult to refill a medical oxygen tank without a perscription, but does anyone have any leads?

Filtering wort from pot to fermenter

I use a strainer that is used mainly for straining oils. I found it on amazon by searching "dudadeisel". It fits perfectly into a 5 gal bucket. I have the 400 micron, but they go down to 40! I think it was like 5-10 bucks Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Way too high mash temp

I did this with one of mine. Ended up with a double ipa that ended at 1.032. Couldn't get it any lower. Wasn't my best beer, but still drinkable by all means. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Boiling small grain particles.

Just did my 3rd biab. Lhbs double crushed my grains this time for my dry Irish stout. After the boil I noticed a decent amount of grain bits at the bottom of the pot. Do I need to strain these? Or just leave em in? I have a 400 micron strainer that fits over a 5 gallon bucket, so I could do it...

What to place in bottom of kettle?

I bought a tamale pot that has a removable steamer tray. Keeps the bag about 2-3 inches off the bottom. I just pull it out right after I pull the bag out

    Doing 1 gallon BIAB's

Hey guys. I love this hobby, and can't get enough of it. I currently do 2.5 gallon BIAB batches, but I am thinking of switching to 1 gallon. Here are my reasons. I don't have a whole lot of room in my house, and even 2.5 gal kind of maxes out my space. It's just me drinking the homebrew...

    Hello propane burner!

Picking up a bayou cooker propane burner tomorrow. This will cut down on my time I take to get to a boil with my electric stove. Are there any things I need to be concerned with or pay attention to (other than safety) when switching from stovetop to a 210,000 btu burner?
