    Low O.G. Question

It's a partial boil- sounds like I need to cap the carboy and shake it up instead of rocking it. I'll try that with my batch today. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Low O.G. Question

My original gravity measured with a hydrometer is usually .010 or .015 lower than the given kit recipe. For example my latest black IBA stated an OG of 1.065 and my reading was 1.056 at 70 degrees. Temp correction made it 1.057 still well below the specified 1.065. I also strained the wort into...

    I like Natural Light.

I became a Miller High Life man at age 14! Somethimes you just gotta get a 12-pack and enjoy a nice cold can of beer on the porch. They make good buzz baits in the boat too!

Beer always turns out dark in color

Thanks for the tips- I do turn off the burner before adding the LME and I have tried splitting it to half at the end of the boil and still get a dark color. I think using more DME is probably the answer. I also saw a chart in a book and Munton's LME was rated darker than some other brands...

    Clarifiers affect on Bottle Conditioning?

The batch I used gelatin in as a clarifier does have loose sediment. HOWEVER, I tried Munton's carbonation tablets for the first time on this batch, which might have contributed to the sediment. I really have too many variables in this batch to draw any conclusions. It started out from a...

    Clarifiers affect on Bottle Conditioning?

Thanks for the replies. I did notice that the batch I used gelatin as a clarifier has very loose sediment in the bottles. I used the gelatin because the fementation was stuck so I added more yeast. My current batch was pretty clear when racking to the secondary, so I am leaning towards not...

    Clarifiers affect on Bottle Conditioning?

When using a clairifier such as gelatin to settle out the yeast, will the reduced amount of yeast in the bottled beer affect the carbonation process? Will more carbonation time be required?
