    First Batch: Filtering

Also don't forget to add the sugar to the bucket when you rack to beer back to it. Otherwise your beer will never carbonate :) Since it's your first time- don't be alarmed by what you see at the bottom of the bucket aftr you rack into the carboy. Just rinse that stuff away ;)

    First Batch: Filtering

If you transfer (rack) your beer into the glass carboy, do you have a racking cane? It's a long stiff tube with a bend at the top. Racking canes come with a little plastic cap that covers the bottom opening of the tube. This little plastic cap will filter out some of the bigger particles when...

How to scrub out yeast from inside bottles

Cool. Sounds like oxyclean for me. I'll let you know how it works out for me To be honest, my sanitation for bottles gas always been to run them in the dishwasher on santize. That's what a friend of mine does. But it seems that's not optimal. I think I'll just have to add this to my...

How to scrub out yeast from inside bottles

By oxyclean, you all mean this stuff: http://www.oxiclean.com/ Should I just run it thru the dishwasher with that stuff or soak it overnight in a tub? Thanks

How to scrub out yeast from inside bottles

Hi. In previous threads, I posted this photo: http://i.imgur.com/PLtjk.jpg There are little particles of yeast attached to the inside walls of my bottles. Now it's time to bottle a new batch-- how do I prep these bottles? I haven't had anything stuck to the inside of my bottles...

What is that growing in my bottles?

I think I have positively identified what the stuff floating on top is. I'm replying in case anyone else ever runs into the same problem... After 2 weeks, the stuff floating on top of the bottles hasn't grown. It hasn't gone away. It has remained exactly the same. So, it's definitely not...

What is that growing in my bottles?

...by the way, this beer *did* have loads of krausen when it was first fermenting. More than I had ever seen with my other batches.

What is that growing in my bottles?

OK, I'll drink it! Revvy-- don't worry, I remember your advice to wait 3 weeks in the bottle before drinking... As for it not killing me already-- yeah. Kinda asking things backwards :) Hopefully someday *I'll* be the one telling people not to worry. Thanks again everyone!

What is that growing in my bottles?

The stuff on top-- if i shake it a little bit, they sink. Kinda weird. Is it possible the stuff on top is floating yeast? Does yeast float? If it is infected, will it hurt me to drink it? Thanks

What is that growing in my bottles?

Hi, everyone. This is a follow-up to my earlier post: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/what-growing-top-210126/ Well, a week and a half has passed and now my bottles have this weird flaky stuff growing on the inside of the bottles all around the side walls: http://imgur.com/PLtjk.jpg This...

What is that growing on top?

@ReverseApacheMaster That would explain why they don't just look like bubbles, but also why they break apart like CO2 I think I'll bottle it and just find out that way :)

YuP. Co2. Just prodded it with my racking cane Thanks for the help!

What is that growing on top?

Hi. There's nothing special in this batch. Just the malt extract and dextrose these only appeared after I lowered the temp in my basement

What is that growing on top?

Here's my attempt at another photo. It's not CO2 bubbles-- these are distinct little circles that stay in-tact. http://imgur.com/MW5pU.jpg I'm thinking about racking into my bottling pail but being careful to not take anything from the top of the carboy... Maybe I'm insane

What is that growing on top?

Hi. This is my 3rd batch. I'm a little worried about a possible infection. Let me know what you think.... This is a Cooper's Canadian Blond. It was in the primary for 1 week, and now it's been in the secondary (the carboy) for about 3 weeks. Normally I would have bottled by now but I...

    Cracked fermentation pail lid

Cool. I replaced the lid yesterday, and the foam had, indeed, dissipated into a sticky film. But the beer on the inside was looking good. I capped the pail with a new (sanitized) lid and the newly cleaned airlock started bubbling within a few hours. I read on a blog somewhere on these forums...

    Cracked fermentation pail lid

Hi, all. So, I started a new batch yesterday, and I fit the lid onto my pail at the end, inserted the air lock cork... and the stupid lid cracked from the air lock hole out-- about an inch long from the air lock hole. Yesterday was a holiday, otherwise I would have ran right out and bought...

    Does dextrose float?

So I got impatient and opened one 3 days early. Time heals all wounds. It's just fine now, but the carbonation is inconsistent from bottle to bottle (but they're all acceptable) Lessons learned: let the beer have enough time in bottles before opening. And don't put the dextrose in the bottling...

    Does dextrose float?

Hi. That makes sense. This batch did start with a higher gravity than the original batch. And it has been colder. And it's obvious that it's trying to carbonate because if I open a bottle, I do get a little pop. I just cranked my heat in the basement and I'll let it develop a little...

    Does dextrose float?

Hi, all. Just registered on these forums. Seems very interesting so far. So, I just completed my second brew. My first one came out just great, but the second time around, I forgot to add the dextrose to my bottling pail until just before I started to bottle... See, for my first batch, I...
