    Introducing BrewScene.com!

Since the competition management aspects of the site are not available unless you create a competition, I created a video to quickly demonstrate the competition management functionality. Let me know your thoughts. http://brewscene.com/manage-competition-functionality-overview/ Thanks!

    Introducing BrewScene.com!

Thanks for the suggestion CA_Mouse. I also will be adding functionality for organizers to contact the judges/stewards who volunteered from the previous year's competition to remind them about the current year's competition and request their services again. Additionally, plan to add...

    Introducing BrewScene.com!

Absolutely! It's a great idea and is definitely on the to-do list. I'd like to send reminders x number of weeks in advance of the competition date to remind homebrewers they need to start brewing if they want to be able to enter a beer. I'd also like to send reminders the week of or day...

    Introducing BrewScene.com!

Hi fellow homebrewers! My name is Ed. I started entering homebrew competitions a few years ago. Through the process of entering beers into a number of competitions, I realized, from an entrant’s perspective, homebrew competitions are disconnected and it is impossible to see a complete...

    1st batch

Congrats on your first beer! Do you know how much priming sugar came with the kit? I'm not sure, but Brewer's Best kits may always come with 5 oz. of priming sugar. If so, for this style, 5 oz. is too much. You can use the tastybrew.com calculator to see how much sugar should be used in the...

Question on mash tun cooler size

I've heard some people cutting Styrofoam insulation to fit in their cooler and sit on top of the mash to reduce headspace. Aluminum foil probably works as well.

    Robust Porter recipe using Rye??

I just recently made a rye imperial stout that came out pretty well. My base grains were ~60% 2 row and ~25% rye malt. I don't have any experience using crystal rye malt so I can't say if your recipe will get you what you are after or not. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Question on mash tun cooler size

The "Can I Mash It?" calculator in the link below will help you evaluate how much grain and water a mash tun can hold. http://www.rackers.org/calcs.shtml A 5 gallon cooler should be good for you in most cases and if you are brewing a beer that needs more grain than your tun can hold, there is...

    when to add dme?

When are you adding your dme? When I extract brew, I always add DME during the boil (either right at the beginning of the boil or later). If you add dme during this time, I would add it to the water and not the other way around. It would be dangerous to add boiling water to dme. Let me know...
