    Is It Mold?

I didnt test it, but it looked just like the boogery stuff you see when you leave a glass of coke out too long. May not be mold but nasty nonetheless.

Dong all grain now, five gallons and buy entirely online since I found the cats running through the open grain all over the floor in the local shop.

    Is It Mold?

Ive seen plenty of mold growing on the surface of beer. My neighbor just gave me back my growler and it was full of mold. Your oranges look moldy to me, Im no expert but I would brew a new batch, I dont cry over spilled milk, let alone beer.

    Brewing with softened water?

I think in my case its because to RO unit pretty much strips everything out of the water and maybe theres not much to begin with, I dont know for sure. My pre RO water is OK to begin with but after the RO its just different, I wouldn't say too much better or worse.

    Brewing with softened water?

My water tastes just fine out of my softener, I do have an RO unit for the sink and fridge but the taste difference between it and the soft water is not one based on salt. Maybe my situation is one where Im not using much salt. We shall see. There is no misunderstanding here, the OP made his...

    Brewing with softened water?

I just installed a softener as well, I wont go without one again! Anyhows, all being said, I was worried about the effects of the missing minerals and the new sodium added. I had medium hard water before so my salt content shouldn't be that high now. A quick search here seems to favor most like...

    Electronic Cigarettes

Three years clean for me on April 3. I didn't use any crutches to bust the habit of 25 years, I made up my mind and did it. I personally cant see any logic in substituting an electronic version full of chemicals for the real version full of chemicals. Its not a matter of 'its the lessor of two...

I do the olive oil rub now, not sure I need to try the mustard as I dont care for it to begin with, now a brown mustard rub may be a different story. Im going to smoke a butt as soon as this dam rain stops. Ill try some of your ideas. favorite rub recipes anyone? Something sweet and spicy.

Im going to give the Apple a shot, Im from the Santa Maria area (Tri tips birthplace) so Im very partial to red oak but I also find Almond wood is really good believe it or not. Hickory is just so overpowering for me, I guess I use to much every time I try it. Mesquite is great on white meats...

I keep reading about using mustard to get the rub to stick, does this leave a taste? Thats a hell of a long time at 215, this must have been a large Butt, no?
