    3-Prong 220v-only vs 4-prong 120v/220v

As I'm planning my conversion from propane to electric, one thing I'm having trouble deciding is whether go with a 3-prong system running everything on 220v, or using the 4-prong plug adding in the ability to run some things on 120v. The only things I'm going to be running in my system are two...

Portable stand for electric 3 vessel system?

Wow, and that's not a bad price! I've been trying to search for tables, but hadn't come across that yet. That may be the route I go. You're right about not bumping it, though. I wonder if they make one that's slightly shorter.

Portable stand for electric 3 vessel system?

I'm in the process of converting my 3 vessel system to electric, and would like to make it portable, if possible. The biggest obstacle I'm running into is how to elevate the HLT, MLT, and kettle enough to provide headspace for the pump. I'll need something large enough and strong enough, but...

    Brewhardware or Stilldragon?

I'm still considering that as an option. I have a friend that went this route, so I thought about asking for his help on the silver solder. Thanks!!

    Brewhardware or Stilldragon?

That's a good point. Overall the cost savings for two elements would only be $38. I think I'll go with the Stilldragon then.

    Brewhardware or Stilldragon?

Anyone have experience with mounting the weldless bulkhead fittings from Brewhardware to a keggle? Here's what I'm looking at: https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/tc15wlf.htm I know a couple guys that have used the Stilldragon ones with no problem, but they're a bit more expensive...

Two New Apps for Brewer's Friend

Are you only able to add grains and not any other ingredient? Is there a list of other ingredients, such as spices, fruit, etc.? Shouldn't FG be an input rather than calculated automatically (or both, ideally)?

Brett blend from The Yeast Bay. The surface was completely clear when I woke up yesterday, so I got to watch this develop throughout the day.

"These are yeast and bacteria, not evil spirits, star san will kill them."

I think it was Chad Yakobson in his dissertation that talked about why Brett and LAB are more infectious than Sacch. It takes far fewer cells to affect the flavor of a beer with Brett and LAB than it does with Sacch. The concern is that if you leave only a few Brett or LAB cells behind, they...

Mead Making - The Profiling of Honey

@MarshmallowBlue That would be awesome, and highly valuable to the mead making community!!

White Whales and Founders KBS Dethroned?

@m00ps I think it all depends on who you ask. One person's "white whale" is another person's "whale" is another person's "every-day-drinking beer." Those that don't appreciate Cantillon won't consider it a while whale.

    First OverCarbed Keg

I think you'll be fine, if you notice the pressure climbing, you can add more ice and bleed off the excess pressure so that you don't pour a bunch of foam. If your CO2 tank is small enough, keep that on hand so you can still pressurize it for pouring, and adjust the carb level if needed. If...

    First OverCarbed Keg

http://www.kegerators.com/carbonation-table.php Take a look at that carb sheet. 12psi @ 38º will give you 2.57 volumes. If the beer increases in temp from there, some of the CO2 dissolved in the beer will come out of suspension, leading to a lower carbed beer, but a higher pressure keg. If...

    Lagunitas Olde Gnarlywine is back?!?!

Does anyone know about this?? A friend called me today from a growler store and said they had it in stock! I'm sure my excitement isn't shared by most, but I was pretty sad when they stopped selling it.

    12% Beer original OG 1.124

Don't even look at it until the middle of next week. Close the door of whatever room it's in, cover it with a towel, or whatever you have to do to hide it from your sight. Leave it alone and let it do its thing. Come next Wednesday, take a look and see what it's doing. If there isn't much...

    12% Beer original OG 1.124

Did you do a full boil, or did you top off after the boil? If you topped off, it's likely that it wasn't mixed up properly, which would throw off your gravity reading. Take a picture of your hydrometer if you can, and we can tell you exactly what you should be looking for. I'm guessing the...

    12% Beer original OG 1.124

Definitely don't add oxygen. You should have numbers on your hydrometer that look like the attached picture, with or without color. In your case, if you hit your target gravity, it should have been floating right around the second notch under the 20 in this picture.
